awards Made for the shop Ingegno –Bottega delle arti e dei mestieri, at the Polytechnic of Turin Selected among the best six projects and unique chosen by two laboratories for prototyping Sell during December 2018 at Ingegno

brief Develop an object starting from a fir wood strip 40x40x200mm, achievable through simple processing and by people with intellectual disabilities. The study focused on countering the negative effects brought about by the unrestrained use of the smartphone in social contexts. Then, identified the moment of the meal as of particular importance, it promotes these elements through a sort of game of necessity.

concept Rabbit is a useful tray to enjoy the aperitif time especially in young settings. With the only use of a hand you can store food, hold a glass and, above all, contain your smartphone inside a special slot, which is plugged by the hand itself.

awards Made for the fourth edition of the CatĂŠdra Stadler competition at the Polytechnic University of Valencia WINNER OF THE FIRST PRIZE for creativity, completeness and representation

brief

Design the separation wall between the driver’s cab and the passenger cabin for the STADLER company trams. To propose innovative solutions, respecting dimensional, constructive and safety criterias.

concept Wave tries to innovate the environment of the means of transport proposing forms and organic materials and introducing modern technologies. There is a wooden structure that seems to naturally arise from the ceiling and the wall of the cabin. On the right there is the driver’s access door, which can be opened with a magnetic card; in the center is housed a Philips ultra-thin screen and able to flex, thanks to which passengers will be informed in real time about the free places in the tram, the weather, news ect. To conclude, on the left, in addition to a seat and handles to support, there is a bookcase. The latter is part of an initiative included in the project proposal and the name Tranlee whose purpose is to relaunch the act of reading in a moderate key, providing texts of all kinds for free consultation. Once you find an interesting volume, simply connect to the wi-fi network of the tram to read it. The purpose, therefore, is not to distract the passengers from their electronic devices, but to keep it, but doing something constructive and nowadays less and less fashionable: to read.

brief Design an innovative fan, without losing its main function and through easily available and inexpensive materials.

concept Smartfan is a fan- pocket handkerchieffor men in elegant settings. It recreates the shapes of the most classic pocket handkerchiefs for men, carrying a typically feminine object in an unmissable masculine accessory. With a few simple steps you switch from one use to another. It is obtained from two equal bodies and joined by a system of Japanese hinges. It is made with a few simple materials: PET core, fabric cover and elastic fabric hinges. Realizable in a short time and in a few steps, the only significant variant concerning the price becomes the fabric used.

Food Design: analysis of case studies and strategic proposal for Polito Food Design Lab Polito Food Design Lab Food Design Lab is the space for research, project and experimentation of the Department of Architecture and Design of the Polytechnic of Turin that works on the issues of access to food, food waste and sustainable food supply chains. Food Design Lab was founded in February 2017 and supports projects oriented towards multidisciplinary interaction and practical experimentation, placing social and environmental sustainability at the center of the research. project In recent years, many designers have elaborated their definition and classification of Food Design; among these there are Francesca Zampollo and the ADI Compasso D’Oro association. The critical analysis of the two methods mentioned led to the detection of several interesting aspects, but also some misunderstandings and shortcomings; for this reason I thought it could be useful to propose an additional classification method, in order to make clarify the definition of Food Design and the products that are part of it. In the second phase I present a research on the Food Design Labs operating in the world, with the aim of studying and understanding their objectives and projects, and then I make a comparison between them and with Polito Food Design Lab. On the basis of the results obtained, I finally elaborate a strategic proposal.


fase 1 For each of the classifying methods we studied: year and birth context, graphic representation, definitions, categories and products that fall within it. They were then compared on the basis of detected aspects, including: industrial edible product; non-industrial edible product; relative environments the use of; packaging and visual communication; cultural heritage; food fruition services; useful tools to find, prepare, transport, serve and consume food. A third classifying method was therefore devised and tested, with the related definitions and examples. The latter is based on seven categories and five attributes, considered as additional properties useful for defining a project in a more detailed way.

fase 2 A global mapping of the main Food Design Labs was carried out; later they were studied individually on the basis of the project mission, of the nationality and highlighting the academic ones. A comparison was made through Benchmarking with the Polito Food Design Lab taking into consideration the following themes: promotion of environmental, territorial and social sustainability; business support service, connections with other companies and fight against food waste. Thanks to this, it was possible to understand the scenario in which Polito Food Design Lab is positioned. Finally, research lines were developed for the laboratory: to follow the principles of environmental sustainability, social and territorial promotion, pursuing the fight against food waste; to orientate towards a support service to companies and enhance the didactic and experimental goal.

Gobenching Arca Onlus Foundation Progetto Arca Onlus was founded in 1994, in Milan, with the opening of the first reception center for homeless people with addiction problems. In 1998 it was recognized as a non-profit organization and starting in 2001 they opened several centers and new projects were established, driven by a common goal: to produce change and social integration. Today (2019) operates throughout the territory of Milan: it offers assistance to migrants, homeless people, dependents and families in difficulty, ensuring medical assistance and food support.

project Five days dedicated to the conception and realization of experimental sittings starting from 300x300x4000 mm wooden beams, within a three-year redevelopment project of Arca Onlus reception centers. The project involved professors and design students from the Polytechnic of Turin, the Arca Onlus cooperative and the guests of the center, with whom participatory planning took place.


cooperation Initially an inspection of the structure was made in its different environments, then there was the interaction with the guests, which followed each other throughout the period of the work. Starting from the drawing on paper and the development of scale models, several sittings were designed, unique and with different functions.


fruition From the beginning the sessions were used and in the following months they were able to collect different feedback useful to understand the frequency of use, the appreciation from the guests and the usury of the materials. All these data proved to be useful for improving future applications in the other centers included in the general project.

Develop an object that can be used by citizens, which can be inserted into the gardens of the Turia of Valencia and considered as a possible integrated urban element in a smart city context.

concept Swing is a swing aimed at citizens seeking peace within the park. The ergonomic seat is useful for resting and performing various relaxing activities, such as reading, writing etc. It is installed on the branches of sturdy plants, moreover the height from the ground has been designed to allow those who use it to swing gently and without particular efforts. In doing so a battery is recharged, this one recharges a lamp that automatically turns on after twilight and illuminates the seat, allowing it to be used at night. The park therefore becomes a safer and more pleasant place. The mechanism has been approved by industry experts: with one hour of oscillation it is possible to recharge a led lamp for two hours of operation during the night.

Mind Torino Maker Faire The Maker Faire are days dedicated to all forms of creativity and initiative, where anyone can show others the fruit of his inventiveness and share what he knows. The first edition dates back to 2006, in California, over the years it then expanded to several cities around the world. The purpose of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, and empower the maker community. Makers, startups, artisans, students, schools, professionals and enthusiasts of all ages expose the fruits of their ingenuity and creativity. All in the name of innovation in all its forms: technology and digital crafts, 3D printing, electronics and robotics, home automation, biotechnology, nanotechnology, wearable tech and much more

project A day dedicated to the realization of bulletin boards for centers for people with mental disabilities, according to the principles of participatory planning with future users. The project included students and design teachers from the Polytechnic of Turin and IED European Institute of Design, representatives of MIND - mad in design, and external guests.


co-design Mixed and homogeneous working groups were created, which proceeded independently, based on the experiences and needs of future users. Manual techniques, virtual design and use of 3D printer were used during the project.


realization We obtained three bulletin boards that met the needs of users, these were included in the different homes, then subjected to periods of analysis and feedback collection.

awards Made in the occasion of the exhibition Nudi o Vestiti, organized by the architecture and design department of the Polytechnic of Turin, at the Circolo Del Design (CDD) in Turin Selected among the most deserving projects

brief Design an expositor for packaging capable of enhancing the products on display, which can be used by the public and whose transport and installation are as easy and quick as possible.

concept Phaos is an exhibitor designed for bottles and containers of similar shape. In the center there is a transparent platform on which to place the exposed object, which is illuminated by a light below. The hexagonal shape allows you to get as many as six stations composed of a console in which there are a question about the product and three answers, associated with as many buttons. Here the user is led to interact, trying to answer the proposed question, in case of a wrong answer a sound signal will warn him, while in case of correct answer, on the plexiglass slab that interposes between the person and the exposed object will appear a explanatory and in-depth sentence regarding the question asked. The exhibition is therefore experienced as a game and curiosity prevails over users, who, in an effort to answer the various questions correctly, learn and explore issues related to the products showed.

IntotheWood Ca’ Mariuccia The Cascina Ca’Mariuccia is an ethical farm founded in 2014 in Asti (Italy) oriented to the principles of permaculture and to the diffusion of ecosustainable methods and practices. The structure is a typical farmhouse of the territory built between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century recently renovated with green building techniques using natural or recycled materials. Over 20 hectares of land offer the opportunity to learn about our nature trails on foot or by bike. Several projects related to teaching are implemented and offer various activities for children. There are available spaces to host seminars, courses or activities, finally the structure houses the association S.A.N - school of natural agriculture.

project A week aimed at the formulation of health and wellness project ideas in the territory of Ca ‘Mariuccia, in order to promote tourism, all with the help of only natural materials available from the site or waste. The experience involved students and design professors of the Polytechnic of Turin, of motor sciences and of human resources of the University of Turin.


mapping Following the formation of homogeneous working groups, we proceeded with the mapping of all the land belonging to the farm, and then worked on different elements: a trail path, one by mtb and one by nordic walking, along which one followed one another various strength training stations; a path for families with children, aimed at enhancing the territory and its products; finally areas of well-being and play.

results At the end of the working period, different solutions were obtained: the trails for trail runnings, mtb and Nordic walking were tested and reported, expanding them outside the territory of the farm and connecting them to neighboring countries; three stations were built for strength training, balance and agility, and finally one for play; were then provided different scenarios and design ideas.

about Project realized for the Italian Radio and Television Museum, RAI

brief Propose design solutions to solve the problems of accessibility to the museum, by people with disabilities, starting from bus and tram stops, to the inside of the structure. Specifically, the project is aimed at people with low vision and in a wheelchair.


critical issues Several critiques were identified, among these we mention: urban obstacles along the route from the various bus and tram stops, presence of unmarked steps and lack of access for people in wheelchairs, no indication of access to and use of the museum, poor lighting of the museum and the products exhibited ect.

solutions Among the various solutions proposed there are access platforms, presence of a tactile map having all the necessary indications about the use, reorganization of the display windows and of the lighting system, replacement of the floor with a more suitable material, and finally design of a two display panels with different functions.

Consisting of a plane on which to store objects to be exhibited, the height is such as to allow people in wheelchairs and children to interact comfortably, is equipped with a housing for interchangeable cardboard sheets on which to print information about the objects on display. Finally it presents a system of self-locking wheels.

Composed of a housing for interactive touch screen and one for cardboard sheets as it happens in panel 1, it is therefore possible to use it in both ways. The height allows the interaction of people in wheelchairs and children in safety, finally it has a wheel that, through the inclination of the panel that takes place thanks to a handle, allows you to move it and place it anywhere.

The panels can be used in any type of exposure thanks to the possibility of inserting pre-printed plates with regard to the theme of what is exhibited

about Made on the occasion of the exhibition diseĂąomadeinSpain, at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, which took place from June to September 2018

brief Design an exhibition panel capable of transmitting the thoughts of a contemporary Spanish designer, also exposing some of his main works.

concept MartĂŹn Azua is a Spanish designer who deals with the creation of interior design products characterized by a strong influence of natural elements. The materials, the processings and the colors want to convey purity and sincerity. Nature is our origin and it is from her that we should take example to realize qualitative projects; what creates, in fact, has no excesses, no defects, is balanced. The title HOMBRENATURA wants to emphasize the close link between the two parties. The exhibition panel wants to immerse the user within a sensory experience, aimed at reactivating the senses, nowadays less and less stimulated. The entire panel has been covered with leaves and natural elements, to resemble a bush. We therefore find the products on show with their explanations and with which it is possible to interact, in order to fully understand their function and what the designer wants to convey.


realization After the realization of some models in scale, the exhibitor was installed in approximately three days, using the machineries and the tools of the university laboratory. The base is a rectangular panel of 2000x1500x200mm equipped with wheels. Initially a stencil was applied, later covered with leaves and shrubs. Signposts with different information were placed on them. At the top, on both sides, two wooden poles act as a support for two of the models on display, while a shelf in the lower left holds the third.
