Course Details The Key Stage 3 Art Course Provides a foundation for GCSE. The emphasis is on the acquisition and development of skills e.g. painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture. Pupils Design: line, tone, form, pattern, texture and colour. The course puts the pupils work in a broad historical, critical environmental and global context. A critical language is developed to enable the pupils to appraise the work of themselves and other artists. Each pupil is encouraged to develop a responsible attitude to the art studio, materials, other pupils and incredible artwork that is produced in the department. In year 7 & 8 Art Staff select projects from a wide varied curriculum ensuring all the formal elements of Art and Design are covered. See the individual staff area for details of the project students will be studying. The year 9 course is now designed to prepare pupils for GCSE art – the extended project in year 9 covers Graphics, Fine Art, Ceramics & Textiles. All of which are available as a full GCSE in year 10. If pupils opt for a full Art course in year 10 we may enter the pupils for a short course GCSE in year 9 to give them that extra edge over other Art students when applying to sixth form and college! Please note that the homework tasks will be placed on the VLE as required usually on the day of the pupils Art lesson.
