2nd town hall robbery: inside job pattern eyed

t is quite inconceivable how the next urban ized town of Sibualn just six kilometers from this capital city can be robbed for the second time with the culprits using almost the same modus operandi.

Although it is being Christian to be giving to the poor, there is always a time for everything as the Bible says, and that a proper way and time for giving to the poor is always to be regulated by government.

Complaints have it that so many mendicants were roaming around Freedom Park and the Plaza while public entertainment shows were going on.

Tourists said that while they wanted to enjoy the evening, the endless flow of mendicants ruined their evening and many decided to just go back to their hotels.

Badjaos? They are not really that poor. We visited their lair incognito one afternoon and found out that the Badjaos are renting an apartment, and they are well fed and well organized. There is a

group who will go diving for pearls, a group who sells these to tourists, another group who accounts for the sale, and the “non-performing assets” they are sent to the streets begging. So do not believe Badjaos are that poor. They are not.

Our two cents worth of suggestion for the city tourism and DSWD is this: do not put away the mendicants. Just gather them in one place during a public event, and cordon them with a sign: “donations are optional and welcome for the poor , but not beyond this line.”

In this manner, an assigned policeman can see to it that the mendicants will be put in one place. Let the tourists and visitors go near them and give donations if they like. But not the other way around wherein the mendicants would be milling around the tourists with begging hands. While many want to give, they are just annoyed by the wrong timto page 10

So far, the “darlings “ of the surveys are in the same team (senators) Grace Poe and Dateline Chiz Escudero - in immaculate white tee-shirts. If their survey numbers by December Manila 2015 remain aloft -and not display a pattern of decline- they have more than a Chinaman’s chance of becoming the nation’s new leaders after May 7 ,2016.

To be specific the sandiganbayan was ordered by the Supreme court to answer the petition of Gloria arroyo within 10 days which argued that so far until now, the prosecution’s evidence has failed to establish the crime of plunder. It is called status quo ante order.

The supreme court seeming getting the pinch of public pressure that if the high court released sen johnny enrile on bail for plunder of a much bigger than former pres Gloria arroyo, there is no reason why the woman ex-president should not be released similarly even if on bail. It is unthinkable that most if not all her co-accused are now released on bail while arroyo is still detained via hospital arrest.

But the latest twist is that the sandiganbayan is now being pressured by the supreme court via a status quo ante order, to answer whether or not there is enough evidence on arroyo’s plunder case field sine 2012.,and has placed her under hospital arrest since then.

Last Oct 15, arroyo filed a 124 page petition saying the sandiganbayan committed a grave abuse of discretion for denying arroyo’s demurer to evidence which sought dismissal of her case due to insufficiency of evidence.

Two petitions of arroyo in april 6 and sept 10 were denied by the sandiganbayan for demurer to evidence. When elevated to the supreme court, the high tribunal heard

arroyo’s plea with favor, thus it has ordered the graft court to act within 10 days why arroyo’s case should not be dismissed for lack of evidence.

Her lawyers argued that arroyo merely authorized the release of P365M in intelligence funds thru the PCOS. There is no evidence that she accumulated and amassed wealth , nor has she gotten hold, received nor used a single centavo of the above money. There is also no evidence of conspiracy nor has she made huge withdrawals from the PCSO’s confidential intelligence funds.

Malacanang has refrained from commenting on the status quo ante order issued by the high tribunal.

Under our present Election Law, to list a candidate and declare him a nuisance candidate, a petition has to be filed by a fellow candidate to declare a candidate as a nuisance candidate. That means that a nuisance candidate is one who is running as candidate but he has no political organization to support his candidacy or he has no chance of winning at all. But everybody thinks he is going to win. Why should a candidate run for elective office if he has no chance of winning.

Now, who are the persons who have filed their certificate of candidacy? So far, the following have filed their certificate of candidacy? Who are the nuisance candidates! It is the constitutional right of every person to run for any public office if he is qualified.

Thus, the declaration of a person as a nuisance candidate should be strictly interpreted.

Guidelines for living

A

s part of the celebration of my life (my birthday was last week) I began reviewing and reflecting on one of the sections in my journal entitled “Guidelines for Living”. It is a listing of some phrases that have been manifested in my life throughout the years in my readings, in my prayertime, in events that have happened in my life. I began this list more than 10 years ago and continue to add to it from time to time.

Here are a few of guidelines in my list that may also help you in your life journey, even as they have helped guide me. I suggest that you select one or two each month to actively practice. Then it will form a habit, and as you continue to grow this habit, it can lead to becoming a virtue rewarding you with a happier, more enjoyable life.

Even just one phrase at a time, when internalized and practiced in your everyday life, will make a difference!

Delight in the Lord. Be an anchor of love. Patience. Simplify your life. Exercise spiritual discipline.

Laugh! Laugh out loud! Learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Live fully in the NOW. Travel light. Fly light. Angels don’t carry baggage.

Create spaces for grace. Experience grace in the tranquility of order. Be a helper and encourager. Focus on growth, rather than on improvement.

Look for the roses and rainbows. Keep a quiet heart. Be alert to God’s guidance.

LOVE is the only way to see; to live in LOVE is the only way to live.

I have a conf ession to make. During my f irst marriage, I was a real bastard. I had a beautiful, sexy, supportive wife and I cheated on her many times. To make things worse, I even told her I was cheating, telling myself that somehow it was better because I was honest. I never understood why. It was not because of something I was not able to get at home. It was not because she was a bad wife. She was obviously a better woman than I was a man.

My second wife, a beautiful Filipina, I have never cheated on. I had plenty of opportunities, but I was never even tempted.

In fact, I went out of my way not to even give the appearance of cheating or wanting to cheat. I felt it would be like slapping my wife’s face.

Why? I had not changed. I still appreciated attractive women and attractive women were certainly in abundance in the Philippines. Why would I suddenly become faithful to one woman, when I was such a dog in the past?

We should avoid the pitfall of thinking that there are certain things and situations, certain concerns, issues and affairs in our life where God has no role to play. God is in everything. His interventions in our life are constant and abiding, and are meant to lead everything to him who is the beginning and end of all things.

His providence is both immediate and eternal, direct and transcendent, and as such, he infuses his wisdom and power, his truth and justice, his mercy and compassion, etc. into everything in our life.

Our part is at least to be aware of this reality and to cooperate with his providence as much as we

can, since we are his image and likeness. We need to spark our faith into action and to keep it working as much as possible, because only through faith can we enter into this sublime reality and play the role proper to us.

As Creator, God cannot withdraw his presence and governance in all of his creation. And that’s simply because as Creator, God gives and keeps the very existence of everything he has created.

He does not only make things and then leave them behind, as if these things can have their independent existence, as happens when we make things. God as Creator cannot leave us, since he is the very source, support and end of our existence.

t is by grace that we are saved and it is God’s gift to us so that we won’t be able to boast about it. (Ephesians 2:8) It is this same grace that abounds to us and meets all of our needs so that we will overflow in every good work. The NIV Bible says 2 Corinthians 9:8 this way... And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (NIV) This Bible verse really speaks of the principle of abundance. God wants us to overflow with His grace at all times and in every situation. I believe the key to this principle of abundance is found in Matthew 10:8. This is where Jesus is sending out His disciples to proclaim the good news of the gospel. His charge is simply this... ’freely you have received, freely give’.

One of the things that I am learning in my walk with God is that I first need to be in a place of receiving before I can have anything to give to others. I am convinced that it is out of the overflow of His love and grace in my own life that others are touched.

So my simple encouragement today is for you to learn to receive all the grace that God wants to give you. As you receive the abundant, never ending supply that flows from heaven, it will overflow in your life so that you will have all that you need to do every good work that He has planned for you.

Educator hailed as “Child Rights Hero”

Phymean Noun, who was responsible for providing basic education to children “living in extreme poverty on the garbage dumps of Phnom Penh, Cambodia,” was honored as 2015’s Child Rights Hero of the Year and recipient of the World’s Children’s Prize at $100, 000 after getting the most votes cast worldwide.

The prize money will be used to finance the laureate’s work. The awarding ceremony was held at Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred Sweden.

Noun’s story resonated with the school children across the globe, who identify with her struggles and the children who were

forced to work as trash pickers amid their desire to get an education as a key to a better life.

The voters, who are schoolchildren themselves, fully understood her advocacy to provide children with the basic right to education, which remains an issue here in the Philippines.

Noun through her People Improvement Organization built three schools near the garbage dumps to help educate more than 1, 000 child workers.

Finally, Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves will be opposed by former Mayor Rodolfo Gonzalez

However, incumbents Uy and Baldoza of the NPC remain as the candidates to beat as 6 out of 8 councilors were committed to work for their re-election. Two of the incumbent councilors are now with Degamo.

But the battle royal being keenly watched is the match-up between incumbent Pamplona Mayor Apollo Arnaiz of Jr., brother of former mayor Ricky Gonzalez whom Teves defeated in 2013. Ricky Gonzalez, who once prevailed over Teves in 2010, is now running for Board Member under Degamo’s ticket.

Coming home would mean rebuilding and invigorating friendships that have and should stand the test of time.

Third, it creates community. When people come together, great things happen. Several colleges and universities, through the strong support of their alumni, have built buildings and centers to encourage a better learning experience; have done multiple medical and teaching missions throughout the country; and have given educational opportunities for underprivileged youth through scholarships. Homecoming inspires us to work together and pool our efforts to give back and be part of something larger than ourselves.

Isn’t that, in itself, a great incentive to come home?

Indeed, Homecoming is so much more than a fancy and festive get-together. It is a celebration of gratitude and solidarity and a reminder that, together, we can make a difference.

6. Sel Hope Kang Sel Hope Kang, 37year-old Filipina who claims to have graduated an honor student from the University of the Philippines, wanted to be third female President, and was almost in tears when she explained why she wanted to run for the presidential seat. Touching.

7. Allan Carreon Ahh, this guy. Allan Carreon, an “intergalactic space ambassador”, filed for CoC near the closing of the second day. His platform includes getting rid of corruption, taking the protection of the Philippine waters into focus, and everybody’s favorite, free WiFi for all. We just hope it’s not snail’s paceslow.

8. Victor Quijano This one has got our attention a little bit, not because of his otherworldly platform, but because this guy actually has something serious to say. Victor Quijano, a chemical engineer by profession, pushes for a federal form of government in the Philippines.

He said that he will save the Filipinos. He also accused Mayor Duterte of breaching the Constitution.

This demand of Pope Francis is also consistent with Daniel 4:24 (NAB) which says: ”Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.” Accordingly, it is not the logistics, security and infrastructure that best prepare us for the papal visit. Let us be like Pope Francis in his humility and his compassion. Let us make his apostolic journey of mercy to be ours even before he arrives.

A POPE RICH IN MERCY In connection with the recent canonization of Saint John Paul II, and the remarkable emphasis Pope Francis has been giving to this particular element in Christian life, may we choose MERCY, incarnated, embodied, symbolized in the poor amongst us, to be placed at the center of this spiritual preparation for the papal visit.

In that profound encyclical, “mercy” was his name for

Dumaguete City OIC chief of police PSupt Jovito Atanacio reported his team of operatives has finally cornered the suspect in barangay Pulantubig this morning, after victimizing a call center agent, identified as Ramilyn Villarojo, 19 years old, single.
