During february Mazatlan is proud to host an even full of art and culture: “The Carnaval 2008”. The unique notes of the region’s music, called "banda tambora", will mix with the explosive sounds of other musical groups during the parades held on the Sunday and Tuesday of Carnaval. Colorful floats and fireworks, musical groups, invited artists, costumed marching units called "comparsas" and nearly a million onlookers will enliven the scene. The air will be full of confetti, serpentine and noise makers of various sorts as the procession moves up Mazatlán’s main avenue.
