ARRINGTON ICE ARENA Arrington Ice Arena was officially dedicated and opened for business on October 19, 2007 as the men’s varsity hockey team squared off in their inaugural game against Potsdam State. The Bulldogs christened the new facility with a resounding 9-1 win in front of a packed crowd, who were also in attendance to see Lord Stanley’s Cup on loan from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The facility is home to Adrian College’s men’s and women’s varsity Division III hockey teams as well as the ACHA Division I and III men’s hockey teams, ACHA Division I women’s hockey team and the synchronized skating team. The arena is named after Dr. Robyn Arrington, Jr. and his brother, fellow Adrian alumnus Col. Harold Arrington. The brothers donated $3 million on behalf of their family. The $5.5 million project is also a place where local residents can use the facility for recreational activities. The operating schedule includes open skates for the community, learn-to-skate programs for children and adults and hockey programs for people of various ages and abilities. The arena consists of a single sheet of ice, 550 chair-back seats, a media press box, a president’s seating area, concession stand, pro shop with skate rental, offices for ice sports coaches and personnel and locker rooms. For more information about Arrington Ice Arena, visit the website at (www.arringtonicearena.com). Arrington Ice Arena has already been praised as one of the best hockey venues in Division III. The arena has hosted such events as a Detroit Red Wing Alumni Game and the last four MCHA Harris Cups. In addition, Arrington Ice Arena has played host to the 2010 and 2011 ACHA Division I All-Star Game.

Our programs integrate theoretical and practical learning in distinctive and challenging ways.

It’s not about winning championships... but let’s face it, that is what we do here. We throw winning passes, hit home runs, score hat-tricks, and serve up wins in nearly every sport on campus. Maybe it’s because our athletes are strong — both in their sports and in their classes. The average GPA for our student athlete is above a 3.0, and with over 50% of our student body involved in some form of athletic activity, that says something. Actually, it says a lot.

We value a winning tradition on and off the court, the field, the ice or wherever our students spend their training time.

UPDATE FROM COACH CARLSON Dear Prospective Skater: Thank you for your interest in Adrian College and our fully-funded synchronized skating program. We truly pride ourselves on the recent growth of our program, and we want your help in developing its future. We are proud to say our college administration supports the team 100%, which enables us to announce exciting new opportunities for current and future Bulldog skaters – specifically, our brand new Intercollegiate Skating team and the Senior Synchronized Skating team beginning next season. This fall, we debuted our brand new Intercollegiate Skating team. Intercollegiate skating provides an opportunity for skaters of all skill levels and experience to begin or continue competing against other collegiate studentathletes in freestyle and solo dance. Our team is currently comprised of 12 skaters, ranging in skill level from Preliminary to Senior freestyle and Preliminary to International solo dance. At its inaugural appearance on the intercollegiate scene this year, the Bulldogs placed 4th out of 16 teams overall, featuring wins in Juvenile FS, Novice FS, Senior SP, Senior FS, Gold Dance, and a 2nd place finish in High Team Maneuver. The team practices twice a week, performs in the annual ice show and campus events, and travels to 3-4 competitions per season. We believe the best synchronized skaters are well-versed in all skating disciplines, and we encourage prospective and current skaters to continue testing and competing. We are also thrilled to announce our brand new, fully-funded Senior team beginning in the 2013-2014 season. The college has approved the addition of fully-funded teams as we continue to grow. Our goal is for this team to compete internationally, representing Team USA, within the next five years. Tryouts for the team will be held in conjunction with tryouts for the Collegiate team, during our Recruitment Weekend, on March 30, 2013. For expectations and requirements for the teams, please see our FAQ sheet or contact Coach Carlson at acarlson@ adrian.edu. One important question remains: With so many schools to choose from, why opt to be a Bulldog? First and foremost, we truly believe that our capabilities, facilities, staff, and funding are head of the class. Each skater receives individualized attention on the ice and in the classroom. We are more than just a team of studentathletes – we are a family that works together, plays together, and succeeds together. Adrian College combines top-rated academics and varsity synchronized skating at a place you can call home. We welcome you to come visit us and experience firsthand what it’s like to be a Bulldog. Sincerely, Ashley Carlson Head Coach of Synchronized Skating Adrian College
