Introduction

A strong family resemblance

Moving our heritage forward The Holker Group has an enviably deep heritage, so developing our branding has to be a matter of evolution, rather than revolution.

Our new brand guidelines are all about presenting Holker Group’s unique heritage as the central pillar of a forwardlooking group.

That’s why we took the time to think thoroughly about the history of the Holker Group and our ambitions, before actually putting pen to paper.

At the same time, the guidelines also support and celebrate the individual personalities of the group companies.

The resulting identities fulfill the need to take our visual presence to the next level. Yet they do so without compromising Holker’s aura of permanence and continuity – which is an effectively priceless asset for our brand.

01

— 09 Printing: hints and tips on how to keep things consistent

It’s important to note that these guidelines are just that; they’re only intended as an overall guide to our presentation consistency. They’re not written to be restrictive, and they can’t cover every application. So if ever you’re in doubt about something, don’t hesitate to call Sarah Ross on 015395 58328.

These guidelines have been created to allow us to express visually two important realities: that we are all individual companies, each with its own distinctive character that we are all part of the same group Each of these Holker Group company identities has been developed to share a ‘family’ style. So long as we follow the guidelines in every communication, the strength and ‘stand-out’ of our brand will be maintained.

Holker Estate Cumbria brand values Holker Estate continues to succeed because it is dynamic, so it’s important that our attributes show through our communications. Sometimes being very close to a brand means it’s difficult to stand back and look at communications from an outsider’s point of view. So using the following Holker Estate values as a checklist will help us reflect our character more accurately and consistently. Clearly, it won’t always be possible to put all these factors across in one communication, but at least one of them should be present every time. And don’t forget, you can take a look at the 04.09 Applications section to see examples of on-brand work.

04.01

1— Quality committed We believe in quality in every respect. In physical things such as structures, landscapes and maintenance, and quality also guides the way we interact with and serve our customers.

4— Environmentally minded We’re passionate about making sure our activities support sustainable values, in terms of our landscape and its wildlife.

2— Established We have a long, proud heritage – there’s a real permanence and sense of continuity associated with Holker Estate. 3— Forward looking We’re not stuck in the past. The fact we have a long history is precisely because we believe innovation and moving forward.

Logos: Holker Estate Cumbria Devonshire Buildings These various logo versions have been created to ensure consistency, whatever the communication and whatever your role. Here’s how to choose the correct version: 1. Decide what the logo will be used for i.e. print materials, on screen, internal memo. 2. Choose a colour, black or white logo. 3. Finally, select the size it will appear at.

For professional designers: the eps versions are for print applications. For digital designers: the 72dpi png files should be used for web applications. For internally produced communications: if you’re creating things in the office like memos, posters or charts, use the 72dpi.jpg logo for on screen items, and the 300dpi.jpg version for any materials you print off.

For professional designers: eps

Burlington Stone brand values Burlington Stone brand values are unique characteristics formed through generations of hard work and commitment. No one else can genuinely make these claims, so let’s make sure they come through loud and clear. It’s also worth checking that your communication suits the audience you are addressing – discerning, sophisticated consumers; architects and specifiers working to higher than average standards; often international professionals or consumers. Of course, sometimes it won’t be possible to convey all the following in one communication, but at least one Burlington Stone brand value should always be apparent:

05.01

1—Premium and desirable The finest stone, fit for the most creative and prestigious applications worldwide. A cut above the rest even in the highest strata of the market. 2— Characterful and natural Proudly showing its Lakeland provenance, a distinctive natural product from the mountains that’s been millions of years in the making. 3— Established and trusted A reliable source with a commercial track record measured in hundreds of years; the product and service are unquestionably dependable. And don’t forget, you can take a look at the 05.09 Applications section to see examples of on-brand work.

Cartmel Racecourse brand values Explaining why Cartmel is such a special experience is by no means easy. But when you take all the attributes listed here as a whole, the indefinable Cartmel ‘something’ our visitors love does come into focus!

1— Intimate and welcoming A welcoming, distinctly rural racecourse that promises and delivers a friendly, fun day out for everybody. An involving place that mixes a social event with the excitement of racing.

And don’t forget, you can take a look at the 06.09 Applications section to see examples of on-brand work.

2— Fun and exciting A joyful experience under the Lakeland Fells: the village scale, unpretentious but well organised facilities provide familyorientated fun and place visitors right at the heart of the action.

When you choose an image, style or ‘tone of voice’, please make sure it fits with one or more of these brand values:

06.01

4— Big hearted A celebration of racing in Cumbria – delivered in a friendly, warm and heart-felt way, one that draws people time and again. Many customers have a family-like devotion to the course.

3— An antidote to the clichés of horse racing A racecourse that celebrates the grassroots of the sport in a carnival-esque atmosphere, making every raceday a unique and special event.

Holbeck Homes brand values At Holbeck Homes we believe that the living environment is fundamental to how people feel – it’s about so much more than just bricks and mortar. So given that this belief in people-focused excellence is at the heart of what we build, it’s essential that the values of care and quality shine through our communications. These guidelines will help us keep our brand consistently presented in ways that always reflect the true nature of Holbeck Homes.

1— Legacy and heritage We’re proud of what we build and how we build it. Our skilled craftspeople, the use of local materials, attention to detail, building on and with tradition – all of this gives our customers the reassurance that they’re investing in the best with Holbeck Homes.

3—Committed to quality and value-driven It’s in the detail that makes up the whole Holbeck Homes picture; from the layout of a site to the fit of a cupboard door, you can see exacting quality in everything we do. And it all adds up to exceptional value for money.

2— Service-minded We’re a people-business. Dealing with customers and suppliers honestly and with respect maintains our reputation for being genuinely service-minded people.

Clearly, it won’t always be possible to convey all these values in one go with a given communication. But so long as they’re always there at the back of your mind when creating material for Holbeck Homes, our character will show.

And it’s also worth reminding ourselves of our unique standards, the things that set us apart from the competition:

Logos: Holbeck Homes These various logo versions have been created to ensure consistency, whatever the communication and whatever your role.

Printing: hints and tips on how to keep things consistent Particularly with colour, it can be difficult to keep finished materials consistently the same this is due to different printing processes, different printing presses and materials. Here are a few tips to help get it right every time:

— Whenever the print budget allows, specify Holker blue as a fifth special Pantone colour, in addition to four colour process. — O n important print jobs, always ask to see wet proofs. These are much more representative of the finished article than digital proofs. — Ask to check the job ‘on press’, so that you can see and sign off the real product at the beginning of the print run. — W hen it comes to paint, be sure to specify Holker Blue using its NCS reference – please don’t use any previously mixed paint.
