THE DAY OF SANT JORDI – ROSE AND BOOK FESTIVAL The festival of books and roses – the day of Sant Jordi is celebrated in Catalonia on the 23 of April. Two legends come together and form this traditional festival. The first one is associated with the names of two great writers Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare; both of them left this world on the same date – April 23, 1616. Therefore the World Book Day was established. The second legend tells the story about St. Jordi, who has killed the dragon; out of a drop of his blood has grown a red rose, which he has given to the princess. On this spring day, Barcelona will be strewn with bouquets of red roses, which, according to this tradition, the young men should give to their girlfriends. And girls, in turn, should present a book to young men. www.barcelona.cat
DÍA DE SAN JORGE: LA FIESTA DEL LIBRO Y LA ROSA
La Fiesta del Libro y la Rosa, o Día de San Jorge, es una festividad catalana que se celebra cada 23 de abril. La fiesta se festeja en este día por dos razones: la primera es un homenaje a dos de los mayores escritores de todos los tiempos, el español Miguel de Cervantes y el inglés William Shakespeare, quienes murieron en el mismo día: el 23 de abril de 1616. Motivo por el cual se ha proclamado esta fecha como el Día Mundial del Libro. La segunda razón se debe a la leyenda de San Jorge, quien mató a un dragón. De una gota de de su sangre brotó una rosa roja con la cual San Jorge obsequió a la princesa. En este día primaveral, Barcelona se engalana con rosas rojas, que, de acuerdo a la tradición, los jóvenes les regalan a sus novias. Y las jóvenes, a su vez, obsequian a los jóvenes con un libro. www.barcelona.cat
TENNIS TOURNAMENT OPEN BANC SABADELL Between 18th and 26th of April some of the best players of the country will compete in the tournament Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, which is traditionally held on the clay courts of Real Club de Tenis Barcelona. It is an outdoor tournament which is held as a part of elite competition ATP World Tour 500. This year about 50 tennis players will participate in the tournament. The winner will get a big check. Первая связана с именами двух великих литераторов испанца Мигеля де Сервантеса и англичанина Уильяма Шекспира, ушедших из этой жизни одновременно 23 апреля 1616 года. Поэтому учрежден Всемирный день книг и авторского права. Вторая – это легенда о святом Георгии, который убил дракона и подарил принцессе красную розу, выросшую из капли его крови. В этот весенний день Барселона будет усыпана букетами красных роз, которые, по сложившейся доброй традиции, юноши дарят своим девушкам. Total length of the route ‘Barcelona, Catalonia’, also known as Montmeló, is 4.6 kilometers, and has 16 curves. The circuit has a capacity of more than 130,000 spectators. Currently, a large number of races are held on the track, such as, for example, World Cup of MotoGP. To purchase the tickets go to the official website.
