Tandil dresses in full regalia Year after year, this mountain village located just 375 km from Buenos Aires city, eagerly awaits the arrival of Easter with a variety of proposals that include liturgical and cultural activities, and take place in the street, churches and parks. At dusk, the sun slowly blurs the figure of Christ crucified, and image which deeply moves the faithful and calls the attention of visitors. Such celebration takes place in the Monte Calvario, a place that has become Tandil´s trademark, boasting a 195-step stair and an imposing image of Christ at the top of a hill. During Easter, the mount’s paths come to life with the Way of the Cross, which comprises fourteen sculptures made by famous Argentine artists representing the different stages in the Passion of Christ. Parque Independencia in turn, on Diagonal Illia, features an attraction per excellence: a folk-art market with over 250 artisans from all over Argentina, who sell wooden, silver, leather, and weave pieces, among many others. Street shows entertain visitors with music and circus exhibitions for the whole family. Moreover, between Heaven and Earth, with the mountains in the middle, Tandil invites to a direct contact with nature in a scenery ideal for horseback ridings, hiking, trekking, ATV rides and paragliding, in addition to other activities that give free rein to the spirit of adventure.

La Iglesia de San Roque y Nuestra Sra. del Rosario es la sede parroquial de Iruya. La fiesta patronal más importante es en honor a la Virgen Nuestra Señora del Rosario y se celebra el primer domingo de octubre./ The San Roque (Saint Roch) and Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Our Lady of the Rosary) Church is the parrish of Iruya. The cult of Salta It is widely known that in the Argentine northern part, traditions, believes and faith are intensely lived, felts and celebrated. In this sense, in Salta, where religion is deeply rooted, celebrations and festivities with unique features take place during Easter. In the Calchaquí Valleys, for instance, representations and dramatizations of the Way of the Cross filled with an important emotional and artistic value, are carried out on Good Friday and Holly Saturday, at the time the «burning of Judas ritual» gains in importance when an effigy is set on fire and taken along the village, surrounded by a festive atmosphere given by this popular celebration. Torch processions and live Way of the Cross complete the scene in most of Salta´s villages, acquiring a particular feature in Iruya, a picturesque frozen-in-time village, with narrow and cobbled streets, and adobe, stone and straw houses, located 340 km away from Salta. There, the «ermitas» represent the stations of the Cross, true sample of the locals´ art and faith, which are built on a wooden-framed canvas with seeds, fruits, leaves, flowers and stems, and placed in the corners of major streets.
