any difficult to treat cancers, including later stage melanoma, triple negative breast cancer, prostate cancer, endometrial cancer and brain cancers have relatively few therwapy options. The Centenary Institute’s Origins of Cancer Program is undertaking research in how to starve these cancers, providing new hope Rhys Thomas has a lot to live for. He is a loving husband and a father of three young children who adore him.

But unlike most 38-year-olds, Rhys is facing the reality that he may not have much time left. After visiting the doctor with a seemingly minor complaint, Rhys discovered he had stage three melanoma and was given just three months to live. “I was anxious, depressed and not sleeping. I lost 25 kilos and I couldn’t keep any food down. I was ready to die, I prepared myself for that”. He participated in a clinical trial which was his last hope. After a few months, the tumours began to shrink.
