The Centenary Institute’s Origins of Cancer Program is undertaking research in how to starve these cancers, providing new hope Rhys Thomas has a lot to live for. He is a loving husband and a father of three young children who adore him.

But unlike most 38-year-olds, Rhys is facing the reality that he may not have much time left. After visiting the doctor with a seemingly minor complaint, Rhys discovered he had stage three melanoma and was given just three months to live. “I was anxious, depressed and not sleeping. I lost 25 kilos and I couldn’t keep any food down. I was ready to die, I prepared myself for that”. He participated in a clinical trial which was his last hope. After a few months, the tumours began to shrink.
