It’s Time to

Get Moving Be ready to feel your best this season! The weather is warming up and that means it’s time to rejoin the world of outdoor activities. If winter hibernation has left your joints stiff and creaky, you are not alone. “It may seem counterintuitive, but exercise is one of the best things you can do to offset joint pain and stiffness caused by arthritis and other inflammatory conditions,” says Eric Lebby, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon who serves on the medical advisory board for Res-Q Natural Supplements. “The ‘use it or lose it’ concept truly does apply when you’re talking about range of motion and flexibility, so daily exercise is a first line of treatment I recommend to many of my patients.” Staying active is not only good for your joints, it’s good for your bones too, which is increasingly important with age. Plus, it helps you maintain a better lean muscleto-fat ratio – on top of all the benefits for heart health, memory, mood, immunity, sleep quality and the list goes on.

Need more motivation to get moving? Consider this: The CDC identifies physical inactivity as a risk factor for arthritis. In fact, the ageadjusted prevalence of arthritis among adults who report little to no physical activity is significantly higher than the prevalence of arthritis among adults who report meeting physical activity recommendations. So, what can you do? There are plenty of joint-friendly physical activities you can try, including walking, biking, swimming, yoga, tai chi, Zumba and elliptical and rowing machines. Find what you like and your body, mind and spirit will thank you.

Tips to Boost Your Memory Naturally There is no denying that as we age, chronologically, our body ages with us. Most people experience mild cognitive decline with age. In fact, research shows that up to half of people over age 50 have mild forgetfulness linked to ageassociated memory impairment. Like many other age-related health concerns, however, these symptoms can be prevented or improved. Consider the following tips to help boost and preserve your brain power.

Eat “smart” foods regularly. Blueberries, walnuts, and egg yolks are at the top of the list. • Blueberries help protect your brain from oxidative stress and have been shown to improve learning, and help maintain healthy brain function. • Walnuts and wild salmon contain DHA, an omega-3 naturally found in high concentrations in the brain, which promotes healthy cognitive functioning. • Egg yolks: Egg yolks are high in choline, which your brain uses to make acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter (brain chemical) important for maintaining memory and communication among brain cells.

Exercise almost every day. Regular exercise is critical to help keep your brain healthy. It improves focus and memory. Studies have shown that exercisers experience an increase in brain volume and score better on memory and attention tasks after exercise.

Meditate frequently. Meditation has been shown to improve both concentration and memory. It can help calm the mind, and so increases our ability to take in each learning experience fully.

Get good-quality sleep. Sleep is critically important to a number of brain and cognitive functions. Sleep restores the brain by flushing out toxins. It also is important for organizing and storing memories. In fact, research shows that when people are sleep-deprived for even one night, their ability to memorize new information drops significantly.

Take healthy brain supplements. • High-DHA omega 3 supplements, like Res-Q Calamarine and Res-Q Norwegian Arctic Cod, provide the essential DHA that your brain requires to function optimally. • Res-Q Brain Focus contains a blend of patented ingredients that support optimal brain function, help maintain and improve memory, and promote concentration and focus. It helps to both protect our brain function as we age and improve symptoms of cognitive decline such as forgetfulness, foggy thinking and poor concentration.
