Attendance and Participation (50%) Attendance will be taken at each class meeting. Students are expected to attend all scheduled class meetings. This course strongly emphasizes your active involvement. Therefore, a substantial portion of your grade is based on attendance and participation. Come to class prepared, get involved in discussions, and make the most of your learning experience. Each person in the class is an educational resource and can contribute important insights. A key requirement of this course is to be prepared, participate, and complete all assigned work BEFORE the due date, including reading assigned chapters and materials, participating in field experiences and submitting assignments. This course will also include a series of in-class and web-based activities. You will be graded on successful completion of all activities and assignments. The activities listed below will be included in your attendance and participation grade. All items are weighted equally. Quizzes and reading summaries: Quizzes and reading summaries will be used to make sure that you are learning and can apply the information learned in class. Throughout the course, you will be asked to demonstrate competency in meeting course objectives. Quizzes and reading summaries will be graded for grammar, spelling, punctuation and content. Reflective paper: Managing Your Time and Money Wisely Read Chapter 10 in Keys to Success, pp. 267-295. Write a 3-5 page paper in which you summarize the chapter and explain how you will apply this information in order to be successful in school and in your chosen career. The paper should be written in APA format, including a title page, abstract, headings, and reference page. The paper will be graded for graded for grammar, spelling, punctuation and content, as well as for proper APA format. Computer Skills Assessments: You will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 速 and electronic resources. For help in completing these assessments, you may call Student Academic Services for an appointment. (702-992-2990) Computer skills assessments will be submitted electronically and in hard copy format. Additional Activities: You will be expected to complete various questionnaires and inventories designed to help you discover your academic strengths and weaknesses, learning styles, and career aptitudes. You may also be required to participate in additional in-class activities and field experiences. Group Presentation (25%) Groups will collect information about a student organization, (Information Technology Services/WebCampus, the Nevada State Student Alliance, Student Academic Center, the Career Center, Student Support Services, Financial Aid Services, The Writing Center, etc.), and present findings to the class using a class handout and PowerPoint速 presentation software. In order to collect information, each group will interview a member of the organization or visit the center being researched. Pictures and informational brochures and documents should be included as part of the presentation. The electronic presentation and class handout must be submitted in hard copy format at the beginning of class on the date the
