CHARACTERS Rene Bernard Born to an oyster fishing family on the Etang de Thau, north of Marcillian, 19th century France, becomes ill and is not able to join the family business. Through the efforts of his older sister, Rene' is able to attend an art atelier in Lyon, France before heading to Paris to join the Impressionist movement and pursue his art career.
