DISASTER FIRST DATES

The Thief While walking to the restaurant, my date and I passed a Shoppers Drug Mart. He asked if we could make a quick stop. Inside the store, I wandered off on my own as I did not want to rush or crowd him. Also, we barely knew each other, and the probability of an ‘ick’ moment was high (it was a pharmacy, after all). I busied myself with leafing through magazines and performing a surreptitious tooth and boogie check in the mirror. I waited for him to find me. 5 minutes passed. I sprayed hydrating thermal spring water onto my face. 10 minutes passed. I examined the “Killer Kisses” lipstick display, trying to determine which shade would increase my likelihood of receiving said “killer kiss.” I started getting antsy. I made my way up and down the aisles, but there was no sign of my date. Perhaps he had finished making his purchase and was waiting for me outside? A quick scan of the street revealed no date. Rain began to fall, and I pulled up my hood and waited. After 45 minutes, he emerged, grinning sheepishly. “What happened?” I asked. It turns out that my date had been caught shoplifting. He was escorted by a security guard into a back room. After a lengthy argument and threats to call the police, they had finally agreed to let him go, under the premise that he would never return to the store. I stood in silence, shocked and soaking wet. My date zipped up his coat, and smiled at me. “Are you hungry?” he asked. — BY BRITTANY S.
