Shiner Car Show second largest
The weather was perfect for the 2014 Rising Sun Shiner Pride Car Show on Sunday, July 6. The 479 entries was the second largest in the history of the event which had vehicles lined both Front and Poplar streets from Fourth Street to Williams Street and up First, Second and Main Streets. The Best of Show went to Al Elsen of Harrison, Ohio, with his 1955 Chevy Belair. A total of 154 trophies were handed out as there were more than 100 more entries than year ago.. Greendale man killed in crash
A Greendale man died in a motorcycle wreck Saturday, July 5, in Ohio County. Larry David Jones III, 23, was killed after his motorcycle went left of center on Nelson Road, just over the Dearborn-Ohio county line, and crashed into a Ford Explorer driven by Edward McCord, 54, Vevay, said Ohio Count Sheriff’s Deputy Dee Smith. The crash was reported at 1:15 p.m. The impact knocked Jones off the motocycle and over the embankment into
the creek, sais Sheriff Eldon Fancher, adding there is a slight curve in the road near the crash location, and with summer foliage it has limited visibility. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Assisting at the scene were Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Ohio County Coroner’s office, Aurora Fire Department, and Rising Sun and Aurora life squads. A full obit for Jones is on page 4.
Heavy rain causes flooding, power outages

The July 4th holiday brought a large crowd to Rising Sun’s riverfront on Friday for music and fireworks which were launched from the city’s boat dock at First and Front Streets.
Heavy rains hit southeastern Indiana on Monday evening with some roads flooded while others were washed out . A Flash Flood Warning was issued for Ripley, Ohio, Switzerland, and Gallatin counties, where two to four inches of rain came down. Several roads across Switzerland County were
closed due to flash flooding, including State Road 56 at Markland and Ind. 250 near Bennington. A pair of horses were saved from flooding onLog Lick Road in Florence. Reports showed that at one point, electric was out 63 percent of the 47040 area with most residents along Red Hog Pike and 42 percent of Vevay.
County to discuss security, litigation; Tourism talks personnel
The Ohio County Council and Ohio County Commissioners will meet in executive session on Monday, July 28 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Ohio County Courthouse under Indiana Code IC 5-141.5-6.1 (C) to discuss the implementaation of security systems. They will have a second
session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. under IC 5-14-1.5-6.1 (B) to disucss litigation issues. The Ohio County Convention/Visitor Commission will be having a special meeting to discuss on Monday July 14 at 3:30 p.m. at its offices at 120 Main Street.
