OBITUARIES William Vogelsang Willard F. Vogelgesang, 84, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014. He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Dearborn County, Ind., son of the late Albert and Helen (Gutzwiller) Vogelgesang. Willard was a United States veteran. He retired from Monsanto. He is survived by his wife, Julene Vogelgesang of Lawrenceb u r g , Ind.; son, N i c k Vo g e l gesang of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; two daughters, Vicki (Mark) Clark of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Amanda (Ted) Cox of Aurora, Ind.; two sisters, Millie Simmermeyer of Brookville, Ind., and Ruth McCool of Brookville, Ind.; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Vogelgesang, and mother, Helen Vogelgesang. Family and friends will be received Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Greendale. Funeral services will be held at All Saints St. Martins Campus, Monday, April 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the St. Martin Cemetery, Yorkville, Ind. Contributions may be

made to the charity of donor’s choice.

Lavonia Schwing Lavonia M. Schwing, 86, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014. She was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Friendship, Ind., daughter of the late Edward Miller and Grace (Hollis) Trader Miller. Lavonia was enjoyed bingo, playing cards, and watching horse racing. She was an avid shopper. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Schwing of Osgood, Ind., and Carl “Sonny” Schwing of Cynthiana, Ky.; four daughters, Grace Nelson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Linda Bryant of Orlando, Fla., Marlena Howard of Lancaster, S.C., and Jennifer Isaacs of Cincinnati, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Schwing, and her parents, Edward and Grace Miller. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, April 8, 2014 ,from 10 a.m. to noon at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at noon with Pastor Bob Curry officiating. Interment will follow in the Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Ind. Contributions may be

made to the American Heart Association or Diabetes Foundation.

Janet Rais

Janet Rais was the beloved wife to Clarence Rais for 62 years; loving mother of Pamela E. Davis and Terry Sawyers (Billy R.); cherished grandmother of Christina Saylor (Nick), Matthew J. Davis (Allison), and Lee SawJanet Rais yers; greatgrandmother of Zachary and Bria Davis, Gracie and Charlotte Saylor, Carter, Kailee, and Maddison Sawyers. Services were held at Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, Cincinnati.

Louis Rumsey

Louis William Rumsey, 86, of Rising Sun, Ind., passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in Dearborn County, Ind., March 4, 1928, the son of Clarence W. and Della (RobLouis bins) RumRumsey sey. He was a graduate of Moores Hill High School, Class of 1946 and also received an engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati. Louis worked at Seagrams Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Ind., and

also owned Rumsey Realty for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for five years and was a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, the Indianapolis Scottish Rite and the Dillsboro Shriners Club. Louis was also a faithful member of the Rising Sun United Methodist Church. On April 6, 1950, at the Aurora Methodist Church he married Wanda (Smith) Rumsey who survives him. Louis and Wanda were married 64 years. In addition to his loving wife Wanda, Louis is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Grosser, of Rising Sun, Ind.; two sons Michael Rumsey, of Fremont, Ind.; John Rumsey (Tina), of Rising Sun, Ind.; by grandchildren; Kim (Dave) Penrod, Jeff (Tina) Rumsey, Kristin Rumsey, and Allison Rumsey; greatgrandchildren, Greta Rumsey and Barrett Rumsey; by two sisters, Ada Courter, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Betty Seasongood, of Connersville, Ind.; by two brothers, Delmar Rumsey, of Aurora, Ind., and Francis Rumsey, of Aurora, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a sister, Evelyn Courter and by sonin-law David Grosser. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Ind. Friends are invited to call Tuesday 5 p.m.

Delmer Thayer

Delmer W. Thayer, age 74, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Friday afternoon, April 4, 2014, at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg. Delmer was born June 24, 1939, in Rising Sun, Ind., to James Thayer and Flo Hall Thayer. On Oct. 13, 1962, he married Jeanette Huntington and they were blessed with four children, Darren, Darrell, Derrick and Lynnette. Delmer lived a full and active life; he was a member of the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, the FOP, Farm Club, Civil Defense Emergency Response Team, a founding member of the Dillsboro Life Squad (20 years). Delmer enjoyed fishing and bluegrass music festivals. He drove the tour bus some of the time and drove the bus for The Boys of Indiana. He also worked part time at Dearborn County Hospital in the snack bar for the auxiliary. He was a family man who truly loved his family and grandkids. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nedra Laverne Thayer. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; three sons, Darren (LaDessia) Thayer of Dillsboro; Darrell (Kathy) Thayer of Lawrenceburg, and Derrick Thayer of Dillsboro; one daughter, Lynnette Young (David) Swingle, Ver-

sailles; one brother, Charlie Thayer, Aurora; two sisters, Audrey Teaney of Aurora, and Vivian Elder of Dillsboro; his five grandchildren, Brendon, Alyssa, Reese, Jacob and Sam. The funeral service for Delmer ill be Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro with Pastor Tom Fehrman and Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Friends may meet his family Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials in his name may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
