A. The best way to sleep is on a firm bed that is 8 out of 10 with 10 being the firmest. I recommend for people with back problems to sleep on their sides with a pillow between their knees or on their Raymond Stricker back with a pillow underneath their knees. D.C. FIAMA, Dipl. I do not recommend most people to sleep AC LLC on their stomach due to this causing increased symptoms of low back pain. I also do not recommend people to sleep with their arms at 90 degrees or higher over their heads due to this causing shoulder problems. I recommend using one pillow for the neck that is medium to firm in hardness. If you have any questions regarding this issue or how chiropractic care may help other issues please feel free to contact me.

The weather we experienced during the past several weeks makes this the perfect time to discuss the serious damage hail can cause to a vehicle Our customers usually ask two questions. first, is hail damage covered by Insurance, and second. how is this damage repaired? Ed Gerstner Hail damage does fall under the comprehensive portion of an Insurance policy' which also covers issues such as deer hits, theft, vandalism, fire and acts of nature that are beyond your control. We examine the car thoroughly and identify the hail damage. Depending on the severity of the dents, we use one of two repair methods. The dents might be able to be repaired using a paintless dent repair process, where we actually work the dent out without having to break the paint. However the severity of some dents requires them to be repaired using conventional methods repairing and painting the damaged area as required. In either case, Randy Lane's Auto Body Inc. will effectively handle a hail damage claim for you.

Q: Dr. Ringel, I need a pair of sunglasses to wear this summer. What should I look for in a pair of quality sunglasses?

A: I recommend to all my patients that they purchase sunglass lenses which block 99-100% of ultraviolet light in the A and B Michael F. Ringel, O.D. wavelengths. The lenses should screen 75-90% of visible light and be perfectly matched in color and free of distortions or imperfections. The best lens color choice is gray since it does not modify the appearance of colors. Price is no gauge for quality sunglasses. My office carries many of the latest styles from manufacturers like Ray Ban, Vogue, DKNY, Carrera, Ralph, and Brooks Brothers. In addition we routinely make prescription sunglasses from our wide selection of frames on our premises.

How much is the IRS Exemption for gifting to my children? -Jim Great question. First, some clarification for the rest of the readers. The Internal Revenue Service allows you a “gift exemption” of $13,000 per year, per person, every year. If you’re married, you can each gift up to $13,000 to each heir. If you go over that amount, you’ll have to file a Gift Tax Form (Form 709). This doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have to pay tax on the above amount, but you will have to notify the government. Roger Ford Regarding gifting, the donor usually pays the taxes, not the donee. Second, property can be gifted, but be careful how you calculate the amount. There is a maximum amount you can gift over your lifetime, and every gift you give goes towards that “Gift Ceiling”. Finally, cost basis goes with your gift. If you gift P&G stock you bought at $30/share, your children will “retain” your cost basis. (However, if the P&G is inherited upon your death, your children experience an increase in cost basis to a more current price.) Whether you are looking at blessing your kids or protecting your money from Medicaid Spend Down, gifting your assets is a tremendous way to dictate where your money goes. However, there are many nuances with these codes and even the IRS website states, “the laws on Estate and Gift Taxes are considered to be some of the most complicated in the Internal Revenue Code”. This being the case, for more information please consult IRS Publication 950. Furthermore, under our roof, we have multiple certified professionals, and our hands are raised if we can offer value by implementing advanced gifting strategies to your estate. If you have a question, feel free to send it to us. We may answer your question next month! ADVERTISING Q. I want to advertise my business but only have a small budget. What is the best advertisement for my money? A. Let’s say you have $200 to spend in advertising. Rather than to invest in a one-time ad costing $200, it is much better to schedule a series of smaller ads, 4 or 5 weeks at $40-$50 per week. Not only do you build credibility when your business is seen on a continual basis, but you increase your chances of being seen by more readers this way. Call to speak with your local sales representative, Donna Metzger, for more information about placing a business ad.

Q. Can I deduct unreimbursed work-related expenses?

A. Some employees may be able to deduct certain unreimbursed work-related expenses. You must be itemizing deductions on Schedule A to qualify. Expenses that qualify for an itemized deduction generally include business Darren Bowman, CPA travel away from home, business use of your car, business meals and entertainment, use of your home, education, supplies, tools, and other miscellaneous business related expenses. You must keep records to prove the business expenses you deduct. If your employer reimburses you under an accountable plan, you should not include the payments in your gross income, and you may not deduct any of the reimbursed amounts. Generally, you report unreimbursed employee expenses on Form 2106. These expenses are then carried over to Schedule A, as a miscellaneous itemized deduction, and only the amount that exceeds 2% of your adjusted gross income is deductible. If you have any questions concerning the reporting of unreimbursed employee expenses, please give us a call.

INSURANCE

Q. What is Homeowners Coverage B-Other Structures?

A. The typical homeowner policy published by the Insurance Service Office (ISO) states that it insures other structures on the residence premises set aside from the dwelling by clear space. This includes structures connected to the dwelling by only a fence, utility line or similar connection. A structure is meant to be somewhat Roger Ford permanent with a reasonably long, useful life. An example of a structure that would fall under this coverage is an in-ground pool. An above ground pool would not be insured under coverage B. The above ground pool would be covered under personal property coverage C. The above ground pool is designed to be disassembled in winter months and reassembled in swimming season, if so desired. The standard limit of insurance for other structures is 10 percent of the amount of insurance carried on the dwelling. If the total of other structures exceeds this 10 percent, additional amounts of coverage would need to be purchased. Call us, your independent insurance agent for your insurance needs.
