 letters to the editor Competition winner gives the tip to the NRL A BIG thanks to Keith and Sally of the Sovereign Hotel for providing the prizes for the NRL Tipping Competition and to the crew at the Cooktown Local News for facilitating the comp. that I was tinny enough to win. Sorry for the Cowboys - at the very least they were the best

Queensland team this season. It just goes to show how much better you have to play to change or maintain momentum after bad decisions are made. This bloody referring by committee is a huge success . For starters, get rid of Harrigan and while they are at it,

Crash survivor thankful for help I HAD a car accident last Monday. I would like to say a big thank you to the Cooktown Emergency Services personnel - Jeff (Ambulance), Grant and Richard (Police) and Tex, Scottie and the crew (Fire Brigade), Doctors, Nurses, X-Ray staff, support staff from the Cooktown Hospital and Cairns Base Hospital, RFDS staff, Hinterland staff and Red Cross Cairns for their excellent care with my transport and recovery after the accident. There are two special young men who stopped at the scene, assisted me out of the vehicle, called the ambulance and stayed on site until they

knew all was under control - Cameron Belick and Shane Edmonds (and the young lady with them). I couldn’t have had better care. To my work colleagues at Cook Shire Council, Endeavour Lions Club, neighbours and friends who have enquired about my health, your friendship and support has been appreciated. If I’ve forgotten anyone, please accept my special thanks. My Guardian Angels were working overtime that day. Margaret Plant, Jensens Crossing Road, Cooktown.

also the shoulder charge. It is only a matter of time before someone gets crippled for life or killed. I feel a bit better now and am looking forward to a great game between the Dogs and Storm. Ted Tilley Brisbane

P.S.: Note to Bill Harrigan. Please watch video of the Queensland Intrust Cup grand final to see how it should be done. With one competent referee both on-field and another on video watch, it was an excellent display and a pleasure to watch.
