Minilesson- no longer than 15 minutes Connection (involve students). Teaching point (demonstration)- “Today I want to teach you…” Active engagement (students do)
Writing- heart and soul of writing workshop- “Off you go….” They should talk about their writing with a partner or to themselves. Think out loud/talk to themselves. Writing the whole time.
Conferring – a time to concentrate on specific students and the skills they need in particular to understand the writing process (as opposed to flawless writing) - KIDS CANNOT INTERRUPT-this teaches them to work independently. Keep conference records.
