1931 AMELIA EARHART SIGNED LOCKHEED PHOTO .............................................................. PH $2000-3000

Attractive 5"x3¾” B&W photo of U.S. Army Lockheed Y1C-12 (#A.C. 31-405) in hangar, with bold Amelia Earhart signature across bottom in brown ink. Photo taken from private photo album, which consignor believes was from an Army officer. At the time, the little Vega was the fastest plane in military inventory. Photo possibly taken in Detroit, not long after acquisition, as Army insignia and other ornamentation is not yet present. Earhart’s connection was likely because of her affinity with the Lockheed Electra. Photo has marks from corner mounts and few small emulsion spots. Dark spots on image are from poor darkroom procedure, not staining. RARE photo begging for more research.

1931 WILEY POST & HAROLD GATTY SIGNED ‘TICKER-TAPE PARADE’ PHOTO ..................... PH $750-1000

Candid photograph taken during Post & Gatty’s ticker-tape parade in New York City July 7, 1931, in honor of their record-setting flight around the globe. Both seated in open car, waving to crowd. Both signatures bold and clear in black ink, photo measures 238x188mm with some minor wear. Photograph salvaged from newspaper art department and owner used to gather autographs at subsequent events, not one of the common photos known of this event. Fine to very fine.

28 / 1931-46 SMALL GROUP OF SIGNED AIRMAIL COVERS (x7) WITH NOTABLES ......................... PH $300-400

Useful group of special event covers, each bearing one or more notable autographs of mostly pilots. Includes Earle Ovington (on 20th anniversary cover of his flight, 1931), Alton N. Parker (1931), Walter Hinton (1931), Hubert Wilkins (1932), E.J. King (1934), Clarence & Louise Chamberlain (1938) and an early Jimmy Doolittle (signed ‘J.H. Doolittle’) on 1946 cover. Attractive and fine overall with great deal of value.

1931 WILEY POST SIGNED NEWS PHOTO ... PH $1500-2000

Visually rich 10"x8" image of Wiley Post, navigator Harold Gatty and large crowd (including both aviator’s spouses and NYC Mayor Jimmy Walker) standing on steps of New York’s City Hall, following ticker-tape parade held July 2, 1931. Post is uncharacteristically pictured without eye patch and signed photo in dark blue ink along bottom step. Despite newsroom use, photo fairly fresh, except for tiny tear near upper left small bit of margin missing at upper right. Full caption affixed to reverse, covering part of ‘World Wide Photos’ rubber stamp. Very scarce and attractive.
