Brazer Approval PRESSURE EQUIPMENT DIRECTIVE The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) requires that manufacturers / contractors carrying out brazing work on pressure equipment use an approved Brazing Procedure Specification (BPS) and certify that their brazers are competent to carry out their work in accordance with the approved BPS.

Course Content

Who Should Attend?

This course is not an introduction to brazing. Participants should have completed appropriate brazing training in the past and should be experienced at brazing on the pipe work described below. The course focuses on allowing participants to demonstrate their brazing competence and includes only a brief revision of basic principles and practice.

All personnel who wish to demonstrate their brazing competence. Persons involved in the installation, service and maintenance of Refrigeration or HVAC plant. Persons wishing update their brazing skills or progress with the RAC industry.

To reduce workplace absence this course is delivered through our innovative blended learning programme, with 2 sessions, complimented with self directed learning with:  Self directed learning materials  Online support  Group tutorials  Practical workshops Learning Objectives On Completion the trainee will : 1. Be able to identify and explain what information is needed in the production of a Brazing Procedure Specification (BPS) as required for specific contracts. 2. Be able to draw up a Brazing Procedure Specification for copper to copper joints and copper to steel joints. 3. Be able to explain and demonstrate the basic principles of brazing. 4. Be able to explain the various processes which take place during brazing. 5. Practice good housekeeping rules with regard to the environment and their own safety. 6. Be able to identify the acceptance criteria to meet the required standard and recognise in their own work where they might be weak as per the standards. 7. Braze to specification and in accordance with the PED copper to copper joints (⅝" copper to copper, ⅞" copper to copper: Level 2, 1 ⅜" copper to copper, 1 ⅝" copper to copper: Level 3) 8. Certified to EN378:2008

Minimum Entry Requirements (or) (and)

National Craft Certificate (or equal) Level 2 Certificate in RAC (City & Guilds 6172-200) Equivalent experience
