WORK EXPERIENCE ABOUT ME Iâ€™m Reem, a design enthusiast whose passion for travel has led to the interest in architecture. I have come to learn the strong effect architecture has in reflecting a cityâ€™s culture and essence. Throughout my specilialization in the technology of architecture, I learned to manipulate materials such as wood to build parametrized concepts that create experiences for their visitors. This has also allowed me to explore the concept of architecture adaptability, making my designs more flexible and reactive to their surroundings.

ENCLOSURE ARC381 Tom Bessai
Enclosure is part of an experimental series that applies a research on wood bending through kerf cutting systems, tension patterns, and joint systems. The intent of the project was to create a deployable system that is adaptive to various surroundings and functions. The product was a a portable geometry that could easily be assembled to create a cocoon-like form fit for seating or meditation. The design of the form was determined through studies of the spine and sunlight analysis, producing the most functionally efficient prototype. The assembly consists of 7 identical pieces that are held together by frames through a joint system that is chosen based on its aesthetic contribution to the coherent form and itâ€™s structural rigidity. This project was modeled at 1:8, 1:4, and 1:1, using a combination of lasercutting and CNC machine drilling. The gradual increase in the scale has forced my partner and I to deploy means of layering and base support systems to sustain the increase in size.
The radius of the curvature of the geometry was chosen based on our brief study of the intervertebral disc and the the relation between the seating position and the pressure placed on the disc. We have come to conclude the ideal seating posture is one that follows the curvature of 125 to 135 degrees, lifting most of the pressure off the disc and therefore, resulting in no lower-back pain.
As we scaled up our physical model to 1:1, It was hard to produce the leaf as a whole and therefore, we came up with a layering system. We split the leaf into 3 parts and placed holes that the tension cables would go through, holding them together

SOUQ is a markethall thatâ€™s intended to blend with the the pavement of the cityâ€™s ground, acting like a blanket and forming interconnected gathering spaces. This project is based on material and structural exploration through sofwatres like Karamba, ensuring the practicality of the project in housing a market. The organic concrete form is supported on steel beams and concrete columns that are part of the geometry but dig into the ground. These columns however are open for people to get inside and navigate through the two floors using the stairs. Moreover, The geometry applies concave and convex shell systems where at the lowest point, the structure would dig into the ground for additional support. The parts that dig into the ground are not very steep, which allows the visitor to walk on the middle section of the roof and have a new perspective of the trees that are embedded in the design concept. The geometry contains two large openings for light that are covered in glass. The buildingâ€™s front side is also glass, enclosing the space and making it usable in the winter.

exploded structural detail 1:25 The organic concrete form is structurally constructed through geometric base cubes that together, form the geometric whole. Rebar is then implemented throughout the entire form in order to be embedded into the concrete, strengthening it.

material exploration elevation images I chose to explore different facade geometries with the closest modelling material to concrete, which is clay. The clay carries a majority of the essential characteristics to concrete, including the fragility when they dry and the smoothening of the surface when water is applied.
ARC201 Pooya Baktash
FLOW is a study space where the walls form cave like spaces for a quiet atmosphere. The walls are straight on the outside, forming a very rigid box shaped structure, but on the inside, the walls are curved, forming continuos waves. These waves are different shapes and sizes, creating seating areas for the visitors. The walls are stacked adjacent to one another, with very little space in between them for light. For the physical model, I used cardboard because of the little holes it has on the side of a cut edge which helped illustrate the distribution of the light and itâ€™s interactivity with the various organic corners. The focus of this project is on the visitorâ€™s experience. The visitor is meant to feel engulfed or overlaid by the building.

WALL AGGREGATION ARC201 Pooya Baktash
In this project, there is a set of 12 columns in which we have to integrate into the design of walls, forming little spaces. The focus of this project was to use geometric elements in an organic manner. The material is folded into rectangles but flows through the columns organically. These folds blur the edge of the reflected shadows, creating the hazy experience of being in a maze. The columns act as turning points for the direction of the flow of the material and at moments, they mark the end of the wall or a meeting point between two walls. The visitor is free to walk between the forms of under them at elevated points.
