World Heritage Weekend Activities ‘After the War Was Over’ Set in the beautiful surroundings of Roberts Park this outdoor play is based on true local events surrounding a lurid murder trial in spring 1919 that enveloped the family of mill owner Sir James Roberts.

The Blaenavon Drawing Board is a large scale collaborative art work produced by visitors to the Blaenavon World Heritage Site in South Wales. It explores how a town and people were born out of an inspirational landscape which has drawn people from all over the world since the industry began in 1789.

Saltaire Cricket Club Memorabilia Exhibition Saltaire Cricket Club was established in 1869 and has a proud history of competing in the famous Bradford League, which they have won 6 times. Famous ex-players include England Test greats S.F.Barnes and Jim Laker.

Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site: A Catalyst for Regeneration In this illustrated presentation John Rodger MBE will describe how the run down south Wales mining town of Blaenavon sought to build a “Future on the Past” using the achievement of World Heritage Site inscription as a catalyst for community regeneration.

Golden Threads Exhibition Preview For several years Young Curators have been exploring Bradford’s rich collection of textiles from across the world. Find out more about the Golden Threads exhibition, which will be on display from 19th May at Bradford Industrial Museum. Heritage Village Views walk Meet David Anderson and Colin Pitts at 10.30 am next to the railway station exit in Victoria Road for a 6 mile (9 km) circular walk with some rocky paths and a steady climb to taken in fantastic views of Saltaire. Sturdy shoes and packed lunch recommended. Horse Boating Demonstrations (Saturday) For the first time in 60 years a horse-drawn boat will be travelling along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal from Leeds to Wigan. At 11am and 2pm, the Horse Boating Society will give a horse harnessing demonstration below Hirst Lock, followed by making their way with the horse-drawn boat between Hirst Lock and Shipley and return to Saltaire to show horseboating and the passage through Hirst Lock.   Horse Boat Elland (Sunday) Step on board the horse boat Elland to find out more about how horsedrawn boats transported goods along Britain ’s canals for about 200 years. See the tiny cabin where the crew lived. Leeds and Liverpool Canal Activities Learn about the history and heritage of the waterway that was vital to Titus Salt’s business. Experts from the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society will be on hand to answer your queries and try new hands on ways of learning about the canal with the team from British Waterways. Live Alpacas Meet Greenside Alpaca’s prize-winning animals Hobnob, Socrates and Bailey. See and feel for yourself why Titus Salt thought alpaca wool would make a luxurious alternative to sheep’s wool! Local Produce Market Our Local Produce Markets ensure you will be surrounded by a wonderful array of produce including, beautiful home baking, delicious cheeses and great tasting dairy produce, succulent meats and many other products to tempt you back more than once! Rainbow Morris Dancing Saltaire’s very own Morris dancing team will be performing dances with clogs, bells, garlands hankies and sticks following the North West tradition of Morris dancing.

Salts Walks Costumed Guided Tour Take a lively and entertaining tour around the World Heritage Site with costumed guides. Adults £4 / Children £3 (12 and under). Walks take approximately 1 hour. Shipley Glen Tramway and Museum Take a ride on the Shipley Glen Tramway up to the local beauty spot of Shipley Glen. Dating from 1895 the quarter-mile cable tramway is the oldest working tramway in Great Britain. Silk Painting Workshop Have a go at creating your own prints on fine delicate silk in this drop in workshop. Solovki World Heritage Site an Illustrated Presentation Canal historian, Mike Clarke, will share his experiences of the Solovki World Heritage Site in northern Russia. Solovki has had a fascinating history. Built as a fortified monastery in the 16th century, the monks soon developed industries and a network of canals. The monastery became part of the infamous GULAG archipelago of forced labour camps after the Russian Revolution of 1917. Today it is again a monastery, as well as a WHS. Steampunk Concert with BB Black Dog, Ovibus, Steve Huison and Shawn Beggs The British Steampunk band BB Black Dog get the World Heritage celebrations under way. Support is provided by Steve Huison and Shaun Beggs with specially written World Heritage song and Ovibus with a selection of Western European music from the 10th – 13th Centuries. Texere Yarns and Knitting Demonstrations Texere Yarns suppliers of double knitting wool and yarns for textile crafts will be exhibiting their products along with knitting demonstrations by their knitting group. Textile Corsage Workshop Join Bradford Museum’s young ambassadors in making textile corsages from our new worsted cloth woven at the Bradford Industrial Museum in this drop in workshop. Victorian Funfair Enjoy three classics of the Victorian funfair, the Helter Skelter, Hook-aDuck and the roundabout. West Yorkshire Bat Group Find out about the groups work to conserve and care for injured bats. Visit their stall to see how you can help and have a go at making a badge. West Yorkshire Organic Group Find out more about buying and growing organic food. Visit their stall where children will be able to plant something up and take it home! World Heritage Treasure Hunt Hidden in shop windows throughout Saltaire are unusual items representing the UK’s World Heritage Sites. Can you find them? Pick up a trail sheet from the Visitor Information Centre to start the hunt!
