Hi-Tech Expansion Plans

Leading Bahraini retailer Al Jazira has automated its warehouse with Infor to support rapid expansion. The supermarket operator is growing quickly. It currently has eight stores and is the exclusive distributor for top brands including Heinz, L’Oreal, McVities, Pinar, Hero, Mazola and Volvic in Bahrain. The company also has a fast-growing food services business. To facilitate growth, the senior management team identified a need to automate the warehousing operation to gain full inventory visibility and management and achieve greater operational efficiency and oversight. To achieve these aims, Al Jazira has deployed an Infor WMS solution. With the help of Infor CloudSuite WMS, Al Jazira will gain greater visibility into inventory, orders, equipment and staff which will increase the company’s ability to manage stock more efficiently while providing greater insights into the performance of individual products and offerings, and helping the company to develop strategic plans more effectively.

NEW RETAIL BANKING HEAD The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has appointed Subah Abdullatif Al Zayani as Head of Retail Banking. He has 12 years’ experience and will lead ongoing efforts to innovate NBB’s retail operations to gain increased market share and further elevate the customer journey. Subah will also concentrate on enhancing the delivery of marketleading financial products and services across the bank’s digital platforms and branch network, which remains the largest in the Kingdom. A PARKING PROPOSITION Bahrain Real Estate Investment (Edamah), the property arm of the Kingdom’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, has successfully acquired 36.6 per cent of the shares in the Bahrain Car Parks Company, a publicly-listed company on the Bahrain Bourse, which specialises in the construction, development and management of parking lots. At its recent AGM, Bahrain Car Parks Company voted the appointment of a new board for the next three years, with Amin Ahmed Salem Alarrayed, Edamah’s CEO, as chairman. He says: “In line with our strategic plans, we are seeking to develop additional projects and renovate existing ones, as well as modernise facilities available to the general public managing them all in line with international standards and best industry practices. We continue to take into consideration how to respond to the current needs of the market by tactically selecting development projects to stimulate economic growth and enhance the fabric of the Bahraini community.” Edamah is currently working alongside Bahrain Car Parks Company to build a 600-vehicle, multi-storey parking facility at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC).

Regional Appointment Sabre Corporation, the global technology provider to the travel and tourism industry, has appointed Aditya Varma as a regional director for Sabre Travel Network Middle East (STNME) based in the region’s headquarters in Bahrain. With more than 20 years’ experience in the aviation and travel industries, he will lead the sales operations and customer relationships for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar, key growth countries for Sabre in the Middle East. He is tasked with managing customer relationships, as well as identifying and executing commercial and new sales opportunities to help accelerate growth in the region. Aditya joins Sabre from Travelport where he was the regional manager for distributor markets in the Middle East & South Asia.
