NEW DESIGN TEASED Hyundai has teased the new i20, indicating that it will feature a completely new design and will be the first car to carry the company’s new design language: ‘Sensuous Sportiness’. Sensuous Sportiness is characterised by the harmony between four fundamental elements: proportion, architecture, styling and technology. The purpose is to bring instinctive beauty to Hyundai vehicles, creating emotional value and giving them a distinctive look. The new i20 will have a more sporty and dynamic profile. The cascading grille in the front running horizontally to the sides results in the characteristic wide and low body and the bold character line on the side of the body emphasises the car’s sporty proportions and agility. The new i20 will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this month.
ADDITION TO ICONIC LINE
The heartbeat of Aston Martin’s sports car range just got that little bit faster with the introduction of the new Vantage Roadster. Joining the Vantage Coupe, which was launched in 2018, this convertible model amplifies the emotional appeal of a model renowned for delivering a compelling blend of potent performance, outstanding dynamics and everyday usability. Powered by Aston Martin’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo 510PS/685Nm V8 engine and mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, the Vantage Roadster accelerates from 0-96.5kph in just 3.7 seconds and is capable of 305kph with the roof raised. Weight increases by just 60kg compared with the coupe thanks to a new, lighter Z-fold roof mechanism and optimised exterior and chassis revisions throughout. As you’d expect from a dedicated sports car, a choice of Sport, Sport + and Track chassis modes give the driver control of its dynamic character and behaviour.
INTERNATIONAL TRAINING ACCREDITATION The state-of-the-art Ebrahim K Kanoo Training Centre has officially received its first international accreditation from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI). The accreditation will allow the centre to offer more to the Bahrain automotive industry in terms of qualifications and training. The facility is the only private one in the Kingdom to receive the prestigious accreditation based on its quality, size, equipment and knowledgeable staff who are trained locally and internationally by top automotive companies around the globe. IMI Accreditation is a practical, non-academic way to demonstrate individual capability, providing independent proof of current competence, knowledge and skills.
MIDDLE EAST DEBUT The Ferrari Roma made its first appearance outside the Italian capital at a launch party held at Bulgari Hotel & Resorts, Dubai. With its distinctive flair and style, the car is a contemporary representation of the carefree, pleasurable way of life that characterised Rome in the 1950s and ‘60s, bringing the concept of “la Dolce Vita” right up to date. Not only is the Ferrari Roma an icon of Italian design, but it also represents the pinnacle of performance in this category, thanks to its turbo-charged V8 from the family of engines that has won the overall International Engine of the Year award four years running. In this version, the engine reaches 620cv at 7500rpm and is coupled with the new eight-speed DCT gearbox
that was first introduced on the SF90 Stradale. The Ferrari Roma’s dynamic development was focused on delivering superior driving pleasure and comfort thanks to the low vehicle weight and to the introduction of the latest evolution of the Side Slip Control. The car’s chassis benefits from the technology developed by Ferrari for its new generation models; bodyshell and chassis have been redesigned to incorporate the latest weight reduction and advanced production technologies. In fact, 70 per cent of its components are entirely new. The midfront-engined 2+ Ferrari Roma has the best weight/power ratio in its segment (2.37 kg/ cv), which enhances handling dynamics and responsiveness. March 2020 59
