The American Women’s Association’s (AWA) big fun fundraiser is back. The Cherry Tree Trot (CTT) is a community race held every two years at the Bahrain International Circuit. It’s one of the oldest and largest charity fundraising events in the Kingdom and raises money for more than 30 local charities. There are 2km, 3km, 5km and 8km races for able-bodied participants as well as a 3km Walkathon, open to all ages, for those who like to take things a little easier and those in wheelchairs. A 2km invitational race is held for mentally and physically challenged children and adults who will be aided by students from the leading private schools and adult volunteers. It’s a fun day out for the whole family with the 8km race, for those aged 15 and over, kicking off at 9am. Entry is BD7 for ages 17 and above, BD5 for 13-17s and the Walkathon is BD2 with under-fives going free. awabahrain.org.
If you’re looking for a new four-legged friend, head down to this event at which the BSPCA will be showcasing some of its long-term residents who are hoping to find their forever homes. Entry is BD5, which will go directly to the BSPCA, and visitors will have the chance to meet and greet the hopeful canines and their carers and volunteer friends. The event runs from 3pm-5pm. There is culinary mayhem taking place in Juffair as the winning contestants from the January heats go head-to-head in the kitchen for the two semis and the grand final of this much-loved annual event. Talented cooks from across the island have battled it out from 36 original contestants down to the final 12, who will take to the stove on February 2 and 4 to decide the final four competitors for the February 9 final.
