The last fifteen years have seen the Martin Luther King Jr. Center grow and flourish in our community. For those who may be unfamiliar with what the MLK Jr. Center offers to Redding residents, the center operates five days a week, Monday–Friday providing programming open to any child of appropriate age. These programs (described at right), are aimed at educational and positive messages around self-esteem, conflict resolution, leadership, and more. During the majority of these programs, a nutritious meal is served to participants.
The MLK Jr. Center’s vision is to see all Redding youth have equal access to educational, recreational, and enriching programs in a supportive environment. Whether that means access to a free computer lab and lending library to do homework, or group activities that promote respect, self awareness, and healthy social relationships, the MLK Jr. Center is a reliable resource for kids and teens.

a great experience for my daughter. I think it helped her navigate some of the issues middle school brings."
There are many ways that kids can save energy and help our planet. Read the suggestions below and try to incorporate as many as possible into your daily routine.
If you turned a light on remember to turn it OFF when you leave the room.
During the day, open blinds to let natural light in and turn o all of the lights.
Shut o your television, video game console, computer station, and other electronics when you’re finished using them. Unplug devices when you are not using them to avoid “vampire” power leech.
Skip the television and video games and get outside and play! Or stay inside and read a book, play a board game, or do a craft.
Do you have the munchies? Make sure your know what you’ll eat before opening the fridge door. If you keep the door open as you search for a snack you will be wasting energy.
If you are warm, fans use far less electricity than turning on the AC - just remember to turn them o when you leave the room. If you are cold, try putting on a sweater first or cuddling up with a blanket instead of turning on the heater. If you do turn on the AC or heater, keep windows closed when they are on.
Recycle as much as you can. It might not seem like saving energy, but it takes a lot less energy to reuse than to make new materials.
Remind your parents to bring your own bags to the store.
Encourage your parents to use household appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers in the morning or late in the evening when electricity demand is less. Also you can hang your clothes to dry instead of using the dryer.
Walk or ride your bicycle or scooter to school, soccer practice, dance class, or your grandparents house. This will conserve gas and limit pollutants from entering the atmosphere. Plus riding a bike or scooter is fun!

Come check out this beautiful riverfront property with over a mile and a half of trails, footbridges, picturesque views, a kayak launch, a restroom, fish channel, and more. There is plenty to explore at Nur Pon Open Space. While the area will be closed to bikes and scooters, it is a fenced, off-leash dog area! Be sure to bring your family — and fur babies — along for a day of exploration and fun in one of the most beautiful natural spaces in the heart of Redding.
The location will host a wide range of activities in the fall to engage a diverse range of community members in connecting with the area. Nur Pon Open Space is slated for daily walks, special events, public art installations, nature walks, and the opportunity for local artists, photographers, historians, and more to visit and thereby be inspired by the space.
“We are very excited to see Nur Pon Open Space reopen and meet its full potential as a space to experience nature, fishing, art, and a sense of community,” says Kim Niemer, Director of Community Services at the City of Redding.

Notwithstanding this provision, this will constitute a full release in accordance with its terms.
