En agosto de 2009 me invitaron a viajar a Medellín con el propósito de reunirme con representantes de la ciudad y miembros de la sociedad civil, y presentarles el trabajo de Peace One Day para institucionalizar el Día de la Paz, que se celebra el 21 de septiembre en todo el mundo. Durante mi estadía, conocí personas extraordinarias y me sentí bienvenido y seguro. Fue realmente inspirador para mí hablar con los jóvenes de la ciudad y escuchar sus experiencias sobre el conflicto y lo importante que era para ellos la paz; esto refuerza mi creencia en la posibilidad de que, como sociedad global, podemos avanzar hacia una cultura de paz. Desde entonces, en 2009 y en 2010, han tenido lugar maravillosos eventos del Día de la Paz en Medellín. Me siento inspirado por el firme compromiso de la ciudad para apoyar tanto esta celebración, como el llamado a establecer una tregua global en el Día de la Paz de 2012. Quisiera agradecer a la gente de Medellín por su apoyo a Peace One Day y por los hermosos recuerdos de mi viaje. ¡Espero poder visitar la ciudad de nuevo!
In August of 2009 I was invited to travel to the city of Medellín, Colombia, to meet with the city’s representatives and members of the civil society, and talk about Peace One Day’s work to institutionalise Peace Day, 21 September around the world. During my stay, I met amazing individuals and felt welcome and safe. Speaking to young people in the city and listening to their experiences of conflict, as well as hearing how important peace was to them, was truly inspiring for me, and reinforced my belief in the possibility that, as a global society, we can move towards a culture of peace. Since then, wonderful Peace Day events have taken place in Medellín in 2009 and 2010. I am inspired by the strong commitment by the city of Medellín to support Peace Day and the call for a Global Truce on Peace Day 2012. I’d like to thank the people of Medellín for their support of Peace One Day and for the beautiful memories of my trip. I look forward to visiting the city again!
