Franklin House Cafe

The Athens-based roasting company opened this Thomas Street coffee shop that has won rave reviews thanks to its fair-trade coffee and airy space. The cafe also serves espresso, teas and baked goods.

This Broad Street spot offers weekly specials and harder-to-find items, such as Nutella waffles and Fog of London lattes. Its prime downtown location makes it a great place to work or study.

Hendershot’s

An indoor porch swing is not the only feature that sets apart this Barber Street Euro-style cafe. Caffeine-infused drinks and pastries are available during the day, and aperitivos and cocktails during the evening.

This Prince Avenue location is more than just a coffee shop by day and bar by night. Along with serving lattes and pints, Hendershot’s hosts music, comedy and other performances.
