WELCOME LETTER Letter from your new Parks & Community Services Director: I’m very excited to be a part of the Parks & Community Services team here in the City of Tracy. The staff here are amazing and I consider myself very lucky to be surrounded by professionals who are passionate about helping this community enjoy their parks, recreation programs, fine and performing arts, and all the things that helps improve residents’ quality of life. From parks such as Lincoln and the Tracy Sports Complex, to Senior programs and Junior Giants Baseball, to picnic rentals and special events in our downtown, to quality bus service and airport operations, your Parks & Community Services Department is committed to helping you with your recreation and leisure wants and needs. I’m also very excited about the warmer weather and longer daylight hours as summer approaches. Spring and summer in California can be some of the best times for being outdoors and active. We encourage you to get outside and talk a walk, ride your bike, go for a run, play some tennis or basketball, visit the senior center for an exercise class, swim in the new Joe Wilson pool, and go play in any of our City Parks. Already physically active? Good for you! Keep it up! If you’re not or want to be more physically active, let us know. We can help direct you to the type of fun experience that’ll keep you coming back. We want you to be happy, healthy and to live in harmony. Please let us know how we can help. You can reach us at (209) 831-6202, parks@ci.tracy.ca.us, and you’ll find us online at http://www.ci.tracy.ca.us. We’re on Facebook, too! Get out and play, Tracy!

Junior Giants League Orientation & Roster Check Day

Our Junior Giants program has become the largest single recreation program offered to the community by the City. Over 500 local youth participate in the league and many are turned away as most age divisions fill early. To ensure that those registered are committed to the program and ensure that parents complete the required Junior Giants participant forms, we have scheduled 2 MANDATORY orientation meetings. Registered parents and players are required to attend 1 of these meetings. In addition to the required forms, the meeting will provide information on the philosophy and structure of the league and explain the various programs offered through Junior Giants. In addition to registering early for this program, attending this meeting secures your child’s spot on one of our teams. Mark your calendar now! Location: Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, 715 Central Ave. For more information call (209) 831-6202 Date

Coaches Needed for Junior Giants

Giving to our youth and our community is a positive way to improve the lives of others. Volunteering as a coach in the City of Tracy’s Junior Giants program provides you with an opportunity to have a positive impact on the youth of our community. The Junior Giants program is s free, non-competitive baseball league that offers participants an excellent opportunity to learn the basics of the game in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. In addition to helping our youth learn the importance of self-esteem, respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility and fairness, the program also offers programs to improve reading and basic social skills. This free program is for local children ages 5-13. To conduct this program, we need volunteers to coach teams in the league. No coaching experience is necessary as the Junior Giants offer coaching clinics and training DVDs to assist new or inexperienced volunteers on proper methods of teaching the skills of the game. The program runs from late June through the first week of August. Come by our office to sign up to become a volunteer coach. For more information on coaching, call (209) 831-6202.
