Many of the programs and services offered by UWA sport are supported by Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) for the direct benefit of all UWA students. Becoming a member gives you access to more than 60 group fitness classes a week, state-of-the-art equipment, multiple training zones, qualified instructors and free tickets to our popular training, health, fitness and well-being Masterclasses. Up for some healthy competition? Join our interfaculty, intercollege, or social competitions, or represent one of our 27 sport clubs, catering for all skill levels from amateur to elite. Love to swim? The UWA Aquatic Centre boasts two 25-metre swimming pools and a purpose built water polo pool, catering for student swimming lessons, casual lap swimming, competition training, Aquatic Sports and events. We also support our elite athletes in their academic and sporting pursuits through the Student Athlete Development Program (SADP). Students gain exposure to development opportunities, have access to financial support, and are provided with the support networks necessary to aid in balancing part time work within an already busy schedule of academic and sport related activities. INTER FACU LTY The UWA Interfaculty sports competition is a free social competition provided to students. Run throughout the academic year, it offers a variety of sports for students to participate in. The competition is a chance to take a break from your studies, compete alongside your fellow classmates and represent your faculty.

UWA AQ UATIC CEN TR E Every year we welcome thousands of university students, staff, graduates and the local community to use our swimming and aquatics facilities for recreational, training, teaching, research or competition purposes. The UWA Aquatic Centre boasts two 25-metre swimming pools (one indoor and one outdoor) and a purpose built water polo pool, and caters for casual lap swimming, student swimming lessons, competition training, aquatic sports and events. With all this and much more, the UWA Aquatics Centre is the perfect place to visit, all year round.

UW A ST UDE N T S W I M S Q UAD Get fit with friends in the UWA Student Swim Squad. This squad is recommended for swimmers with reasonable technique who are interested in improving their fitness. Squad sessions can include time trials, training tips, or just swimming for exercise. Come along for a FREE swim session before you commit to the Semester. No need to book - visit the centre and let our friendly staff know that you’re interested in joining the UWA Student Swim Squad. NATIONALS You can play for Team UWA in the intervarsity competition run by Australian University Sport. Nationals is a multi-sport competition between teams from more than 40 Australian Universities and tertiary institutions across 30-plus sports. The Games were first held in 1993 in Queensland and have grown to attract over 6,000 competitors each year, making it the flagship event on the university sporting calendar. In 2019, the Nationals will return to the Gold Coast, Queensland.

IN D IGEN O US N ATIO N A LS In 2019, the Indigenous Nationals will be hosted by the University of Western Australia from Sunday 23—Friday 28 July. The Games provide a unique opportunity to bring together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from around the country to compete at a national level in mixed sports.

WO RLD U N IVERS ITY GA MES The World University Games (WUG) and World University Championships (WUC) are held every two years under the banner of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and are hosted by countries around the world. The World University Championships for individual sports alternate annually with the World University Games. In 2019, the World University Games will be held in Napoli, Italy from Wednesday 3—Sunday 14 July. For more information, visit sport.uwa.edu.au

UWA STU D EN T ATHLETES The Student Athlete Development Program and the UWA Sport Bursary programs are designed to support and facilitate elite and high performing student athletes in balancing the demands of study and sport during their time at university.

ST UDE N T AT H LE T E DE VE LO PME NT PRO G RAM (S ADP) Targeting elite and high performing athletes, the program aims to assist emerging athletes in reaching the next level of performance. The SADP strives to provide a positive impact on student athletes through the following: • Exposure to various development opportunities that they would normally not have access to. • Support from a network of staff within the University who can assist in balancing academic pressures with sporting pressures. • Access to on campus facilities that aid efficient and time effective training. • Contact with support services that position student athletes with an opportunity to gain appropriate employment post-graduation. SP ORTS AW ARD S The annual UWA Sports Awards acknowledge students and members of UWA Sporting clubs for their service and achievements though the awarding of Club Letter, Champion Club, Coach of the Year, Club Service and Sports Star of the Year. The Awards also present an opportunity to recognise the winners of our intervarsity, faculty and college competitions, played over the preceding year. UWA B LU ES The Blues has a rich history, with Full Blue and Half Blues awarded by the Sports Council to UWA student athletes since 1921. These awards are considered the highest honour universities can bestow upon outstanding student athletes for not only their athletic abilities but their contributions to the university and their respective clubs throughout the year. UWA Blues are one of UWA Sport’s oldest and most prestigious traditions.
