Resolution to Support N. CA Triangle Fire Commemoration Committee Events Whereas, this year is the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Fire in New York City in March of 2011; and Whereas, on March 25, 1911 over 145 mostly immigrant women garment workers who were mostly Jewish and Italian American were either burned to death or died from jumping from the building; and Whereas, this human catastrophe exposed the need to strengthen labor laws, health and safety protection including fire protection rules as well as union protection for workers seeking labor rights; and Whereas, these issues are still critical for women workers, immigrant workers, health and safety advocates in the United States and Northern California today; and Whereas, national events are taking places around the county which are publicized by the New York City committee http://rememberthetrianglefire.org/; and Whereas, Northern California Triangle Fire Commemoration Committee n-ca-trianglefire-committee@googlegroups.com has been established to build support for events in this area to help commemorate this important labor event; and Whereas, this committee is already planning and or supporting events including: Friday March 11 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM Labor and Community Studies SF City College, Ocean Campus Remembering Triangle, Connecting the Struggles Past and Present Performance by Rocking Solidarity Chorus, Judith Offer play segments and/or video highlights, Gay Ducey one-woman play on Triangle at Mission Campus Chinese Progressive Ass, Collectiva Women Workers Group exhibit of their work, Eileen Evitt a relative of a garment worker, theatrical reading of Judith Offer's play and other segments sponsored by San Francisco Community College Labor & Community Studies March 25, 2010 5:30 – 8:00 PM Worksafe Event in Oakland Commemorating the Triangle Fire at the Hilton Garden Inn Emeryville www.worksafe.org March 25, 2010 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM California Coalition For Workers Memorial Day Educational Conference on Labor, Injured Workers and ACOEM Rules in California ILWU Local 34 5 Berry St. San Francisco next to AT&T Park. www.workersmemorialday.org

California Triangle Fire Commemoration Committee Public Meetings to Commemorate 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Fire and urges all affiliated union locals, Councils and the California State Federation of Labor to endorse and support this endeavor financially and with publicity about these events.
