Passing of VCTGA Member HALL, Ralph Clayton, 84, of Spotsylvania County, passed from his home into the hands of the Lord on Sunday, March 31, 2019. He braved several illnesses in recent years, eventually succumbing to complications from ALS. Ralph ďŹ rst worked for Goodwyn Bros. Lumber and American Viscose Corporation before serving in the Air Force for four years during the time of the Korean War. After service, he worked two years for the Red Cross and then 32 years as a Communications Specialist for the Defense Logistics Agency at the Defense General Supply Center in ChesterďŹ eld County.

Ralph was most well known as the owner of Ralph's Christmas Trees. He started young, helping his mother on her tree lot in downtown Fredericksburg, and later he operated several tree lots in the Richmond area for more than 30 years. Ralph started growing his own trees and at his passing, still had his choose and cut farms in Nelson and Spotsylvania Counties. Ralph was loved and respected by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Chewning Hall; son, Rick (Sandra); daughters, Rhonda Brown (Preston) and Regina Hall (Curtis Bradbury); two grandsons, Mikey Brown and Robert Brown; a great-granddaughter, Arabella Brown; a great-grandson, Blake Brown; brother, Donald Hall; sister, Doris McKinney (Eddie); numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Cee Cee. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Hall; mother, Bessie Fletcher Hall Owens; two sisters, Clara and Janet; and two brothers, Earl and Robert.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at Fellowship Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Online guestbook available at covenantfuneralservice.com.
