MLS REGULAR SEASON – RSL @ VANCOUVER – SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2011 BORCHERS RETURNS AFTER 3‟ EJECTION: Nat Borchers‟ ejection in the 3‟ of the July 4 game was the earliest red card in RSL team history, five minutes ahead of the Jack Stewart ejection back on August 26, 2006, at Giants Stadium in NY … In that game, RSL made it to halftime tied 0-0, but allowed an Edson Buddle hat trick in nd a 21-minute span of the 2 half, with another three goals scored during the final 45 minutes … Borchers was forced to sit out of last Saturday‟s match against Dallas, but will return to eligibility for Saturday‟s contest at Vancover … The reigning MLS Best XI defender also suited up for RSL Tuesday night in Dallas, playing the full 90 minutes in RSL‟s 0-2 Open Cup defeat at Pizza Hut Park …

SEEING RED, BUT TO LITTLE ADVANTAGE: Back on May 7, Real Salt Lake saw an opponent hit with multiple red cards for the third time in the team’s now 200-game MLS regular-season history, with the 65minute span with at least a one-man advantage the longest in club annals … For an incredible amount of 49 minutes, RSL enjoyed a TWO-MAN advantage over Chivas USA, playing 11-v9 in deadlocked fashion prior to Will Johnson’s th victory-clinching goal in the 87 minute … On only one nd prior occasion – Oct. 18, 2008, in the 2 -ever game at Rio Tinto Stadium – had RSL enjoyed a 2-man advantage over its opponent, but that was just for stoppage time of the team‟s 3-1 victory over FC Dallas, a game known primarily for Johnson‟s 2008 MLS Goal of the Year blast … On 25 occasions, RSL opponents have been subject to ejection, giving the Claret-and-Cobalt a total of 424 minutes with a man-advantage … During those minutes, RSL has seen a +9 goal difference …

RARE BACK-TO-BACKS vs SINGLE OPPONENT: The July 9/12 MLS / Open Cup back-to-back games for RSL vs Dallas were a rarity in the team‟s now 251-game history, but not unprecedented … Earlier this season, RSL faced Columbus in CONCACAF Champions League play on Feb. 22 / March 1, drawing first on the road and returning home for a 4-1 win to advance to the Semifinals … Last year, RSL played two games three days apart against D.C. United, dropping the Open Cup game before bouncing back for a 0-0 draw in MLS play … Back in 2006, RSL lost an Open Cup game to Colorado, 0-1 at home, before winning the MLS game a week later on the road with a 4-1 win … The list, RSL now sporting a 7-5-4 mark all-time: (@ = away)

“THIS IS YOUR LIFE, JASON KREIS”: For RSL Head Coach Jason Kreis, the eight days from July 4-12, 2011 marked a walk down memory lane, starting with the July 4 post-game retirement of the iconic #9 jersey worn for RSL (and earlier for Dallas) by one of Major League Soccer‟s pioneers … Jason‟s family, friends and his legendary youth coach, Gary Williamson, who now calls North Texas home, were all on hand for the occasion …

On Saturday, July 9, RSL defeated Kreis‟ former team, FC Dallas, 2-0 in a critical match for RSL in the Supporters Shield race, before heading to the MetroPlex for Tuesday‟s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game at Pizza Hut Park, which RSL dropped 0-2 … Kreis played nine seasons in Dallas, winning the MLS MVP Award in 1999, becoming the first American-born player to do (and one of only three in the League‟s first 15 years) …

All-time, RSL now has been victim of 30 red cards, succumbing to a -9 goal difference in a total of 632 minutes playing a man down … Incredibly, SIX of those nine goals came in one game, the 0-6 loss @NY in August th 2006 when DF Jack Stewart was tossed in the 8 minute …

Both of Kreis‟ sons – Jake and Kason – were born in Dallas, where Jason scored 91 of his 108 career goals, and helped bring the Burn its lone title of any kind, the 1997 U.S. Open Cup … Kreis teammates on that Burn squad that hoisted the Dewar Trophy? – current RSL GM Garth Lagerwey and current RSL Assistant Coach Jeff Cassar …

In its history, RSL has never played with just nine men due to disciplinary issues, and has now scored SEVEN shorthanded goals (Jason Kreis, 7/4/05 v. NY; Chris Klein & Kreis, 9/16/06 v. DAL; a Chris Leitch own-goal on 7/3/09 v. SJ; Nelson Gonzalez late goal on 5/28/11 v. SEA; and the Johnson/Saborio goals Monday) …
