RSL REWIND, PART II – SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL: Before the Open Cup disappointment against FC Dallas on Tuesday, Real Salt Lake went a long way in climbing back to the top of the Western Conference table last Saturday night by knocking off the Texas side 2-0 in front of 17,734 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium … After a scoreless – and physical – first half in Sandy, Real Salt Lake broke the deadlock just moments into the second half when MF Andy Williams connected from range to beat GK Kevin Hartman, who bobbled the dipping shot and couldn‟t corral the ball before it trickled over the goal line … Dallas would have a golden chance to equalize in the 84th minute, when a run from MF Brek Shea would bring RSL GK Nick Rimando out of position … After making a run into the box, Shea left the ball off for MF Jackson in front of an open net, only to see his teammate tap the ball towards goal before DF Chris Wingert raced in to make a goal line save to keep RSL‟s 1-0 lead intact … The home side would seal the victory in stoppage time, when MF Will Johnson would connect with FW Fabian Espíndola to put the game out of reach … Upon receiving the pass from Johnson, Espindola was able to shake the Dallas defense and beat Hartman near-post in the closing

FC DALLAS STREAK-SNAPPERS AGAIN: RSL‟s overall undefeated streak had reached seven games heading into Tuesday‟s U.S. Open Cup affair, counting its 2-0 win over the visiting Wilmington Hammerheads in the Open Cup‟s Fourth Round back on June 28 … The Hoops had stopped a pair of lengthy unbeaten runs by RSL in the 2010 season, a 10-match stretch in regular season play and a 16-game run against all MLS opposition last October in the MLS Cup Playoffs (including regular season and Champions League play) … RSL has also returned the favor in the past year, a victory in regular season play last October snapping Dallas‟ MLS-record-tying undefeated streak at 19 games, while last Saturday‟s win marked just the second loss by FC Dallas in its last 14 contests and snapped a three-game winning streak …

FABIAN A FORCE: FW Fabian Espíndola’s stoppage time goal last Saturday against FC Dallas pushed his team-high goal total in MLS play to six … The red-hot Argentine striker has now scored in back-to-back MLS games and found the back of the net five times in his last seven league appearances … After tacking on goals in RSL‟s last two contests – a late equalizer in the 3-3 draw with New England (July 4) and the added-time insurance tally in a 2-0 win vs. FC Dallas (July 9), Espíndola has equaled his career season-high total of six goals in just 12 contests, nearly halving the 22 games it took to accomplish the same total last season … On June 18 vs. th D.C.
