Comparing Long Island and San Juan County Homes Sold and For Sale
As the Manhattanization of Seattle continues, the hereunto discovery of the San Juan Islands by Seattleites and Vancouverites is expected to accelerate, but without overwhelming the rustic qualities of the islands that continues to draw in new homebuyers. A legacy home in the San Juans offers the same connected remoteness enjoyed by permanent and part-time residents of Long Island. While any legacy home is likely to exhibit distinctive features and locations shared by no others, some key differences in both the cost and quality of life commonly distinguish homes in the San Juans from homes on the North and South Shores of Long Island. To illustrate these differences, RSIR has compared four of our current open listings on San Juan and adjacent Orcas Islands with recent comparable sold homes and homes for sale on both the South Shore and North Shore of Long Island7. To check our comparison, we consulted Forbes magazineâ€™s list of the most desirable zip codes on the island, most of which were concentrated on the South Shore.
