REAL | letter from the publisher “People continue to be the most important component of The Amelia. They’re all “Car Guys” of one stripe or another. They are the reason people tell me that The Amelia is still, in our 24th year, the “Racers’ Concours” or “The Fun Concours”. These days, even with the rain, I still think it’s both.” Bill Warner Founder and Chairman Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance

ANTICIPATION “The joy of looking forward to a favorite activity - Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance” 2018 rocked it and the 2019 event surely will be even better. The Concours is like a fine wine, getting better each year. Now in its second decade, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is among the top automotive events in the world. The Amelia, always held the second full weekend in March, draws over 300 rare vehicles from collections from around the world. This is an automotive celebration like no other. Since the initial event in 1996 the show’s Charitable Foundation has donated over $2.5 million to deserving charities along Florida’s First Coast. Take a trip to the Concours. You won’t leave disappointed. Make sure to get your hotel reservations early or plan to face a drive (It will still be worth it!). Maybe I’ll see you there. Ed Bertha

Christy May started her real estate career in Greater Boston in communications of large commercial projects. She named Fidelity’s FMR Properties Boscom for the acquisition of Massport’s Pier. It is now the heart of the thriving South Seaport area there. Producing a 9-minute summary video of the proposal was key to securing the Pier and surrounding land for Fidelity. Coming from TV News Production at Channel 10 in Miami where she received an AB in Liberal Arts and a BS in Marine Bio Chemistry from Rosensteil School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, she stayed in TV News at Channel 5 in Boston while pursuing her Master’s Degree in Communications from Boston University. Christy was also the constituent representative of Chinatown and the Leather District during the Big Dig and this reclaimed area became the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Her mom had a thoroughbred race horse farm in Myakka Ranches - 6 miles east of I75, off Clark Rd. When Boston winters became worse and worse, she and her husband moved

Lakewood Ranch is comprised of dozens of Communities! Actually, so is Sarasota for the most part especially recently. It is valuable to study the differences in the communities in order to help clients moving to the area. A good business plan has been, “Send me your retired, your frozen, your over taxed!” Christy brings tech companies she grew to know as she named and promoted the COMDEX (Computer Dealer’s Exposition) to being the largest computer show ever, eclipsing the Consumer Electronics Show while she was in Boston. Working with Softbank, she launched tech companies out of her Advertisinq and PR Firm, DM Communications. She promoted New England Enviro Expo and launched many tech companies.

A consortium of neighbors and neighborhoods was able to form a group that hired Sasaki for the concept and the development. The City of Sarasota awarded the first comprehensive development plan for this acreage in 47 years to The Bay Conservancy which is working with the City in all ways to bring us this fabulous city park.

She is launching Florida Ocean Technology Network = FLOTN. mong its many offerings, F7 provides traditional sales and service. They can find any car, in any market, saving you countless hours of searching for a particular vehicle. With F7’s worldwide network they can source classic, exotic and rare vehicles. Securing the ‘unobtainable’ is F7’s specialty. “With our extensive international customer base and knowledge, we pride ourselves on our reputation of sourcing the rarest vehicles in the world,” shares Chris. If vintage cars are not your thing, perhaps a modern super car or even the new class of hyper car may peak your interest. The Cogan’s also represent new car brands that are bespoke in nature. With models ranging in price from a few hundred thousand dollars to over three million, there is certainly something to satisfy every car enthusiast’s wildest dream. One brand they represent is Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG), a small volume hyper-car manufacturer based in New York. SCG was founded by world renowned car enthusiast and builder, Jim Glickenhaus, who took the automotive world by storm in 2005 when he created the Ferrari P4/5 and later the P4/5 Competizione which he campaigned successfully at iconic races such as the 24 Hours of Nurburgring in Germany. It was a common interest in racing which connected Chris and Connor Cogan to Glickenhaus. Together they formed Glickenhaus North American Racing (GNAR) to race in the most challenging races known around the world. Glickenhaus and the Cogan’s have exciting, if not ambitious, plans for GNAR which include major races and race series like the World Endurance Challenge (WEC) series in Europe which encompasses nine of the most famous races and tracks around the globe such as Silverstone in Great Britian, Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, The Six Hours of Fuji in Japan and, of course, the granddaddy of them all, the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. GNAR isn’t just building cars to race on the road either, they also have an SUV named the SCG Boot after legendary actor and motorsports racer Steve McQueen’s Baja Boot race vehicle on which SCG’s is based. The SCG Boot is approved to run in the Baja 1,000 off-road race in Mexico in November. They’re also developing a plan with sponsor and navigation expert GARMIN to participate in a trans-continent excursion from New York to Paris slated for 2020 which requires the vehicle to be equipped with pontoons. The excursion as they’re calling it, probably since they can’t find anyone crazy enough to race against them, will depart from Times Square in New York City. From there, the Boot heads west and doesn’t stop. The water crossing will occur at the Bering Strait, which is 53 miles across at its narrowest point. From there, the Boot will trek southwest to the Road of Bones and onto the Trans-Siberian Highway. The route will pass through Beijing, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and finally end in Paris. The Cogan’s relationship with SCG is multi-faceted, they secured exclusive distribution rights for SCG’s road vehicles including 17 states in the east and south U.S. and they plan to establish and manage sales and service centers for the brand in Sarasota and Palm Beach. SCG is the only NHTSA approved hyper car manufacturer in the US. Each model of road car they build is based on a similar version fully homologated to race in classes such as LMP1, GT3 and GT4. The road going cars are basically identical to their race brethren except with a few creature comforts added such as full leather and alcantara interior, DOT approved tires and, of course, obligatory emissions equipment. The Cogan’s, through their GNAR

entity, also have exclusive worldwide sales and distribution rights to SCG’s race vehicles. Regardless of what type of cars you drive or collect, F7 can be a valuable resource. Should you wish to sell a special car, F7 offers consignment services. Their experience and industry relationships will help you find the right buyer at the highest market value. F7’s goal is always to obtain maximum profit for those who consign an automobile with them. It starts with in-house services preparing the vehicle for sale and then determining the best route to sell the vehicle. Chris explains, “Often times it is best to sell privately through our worldwide collector car network.” He continues, “Under certain circumstances if an auction is the best venue for sale, we will advise which auction is the best option to maximize the sale price.” To build true diversification into personal investment portfolios, F7 also offers classic car portfolio investment advisory services. These include the development of clientspecific investment plans, research, sourcing and acquisition assistance as well as analysis of the specialized financing and insurance options required. Classic and collectible cars have been a top performing asset for the last thirty years. It is a community of owners, enthusiasts and aficionados who share a common interest, automobiles,” quips Chris. Like their white-glove storage services, expert automotive mechanical service is a cornerstone of F7’s business. The foundation of F7’s service operations was the acquisition of RENN HAUS, one of the top European-auto service centers in Florida. RENN HAUS is an established and profitable business with an impeccable reputation going on two decades now. The founder and manager, Stephanie Havens joined F7 as Senior Vice President of Service and Customer Relations. The original RENN HAUS shop is located in Sarasota off Clark Road. Chris shares, “You need to know what they’re going to be looking for before you enter an event. How a judge looks at your car depends on the show. The Devil is in the details.” F7 will help you choose the right show, get your paperwork together and make sure your vehicle is the best it can be. Boost Your Health: 3 Senses you should attend to more

e have so many great ways we can use knowledge of the body’s inner workings to heal and maintain wellness. When we look to our sensory systems and support our “involuntary muscles”, we reduce the work the body has to do on its own to run more efficiently and maximize health. 1. Proprioception is the body’s awareness of movement. We are not always aware of how our insides are working, especially the diaphragm. Jobs that require sitting, overhead reaching, bending for long periods of time contribute to a breathing pattern that does not benefit you. By learning Diaphragmatic Breathing, you can train your diaphragm to move in the correct manner influencing better health. You can easily incorporate this breath before you get out of bed in the morning and after you get back in for the night. I recommend diaphragmatic breathing to be done only when the body is not engaging abdominal muscles to reduce injury such as hernias and prolapsed bladders. What a good way to start and end your day knowing you have taken the time to care for yourself. 2. The Vestibular sensations tell us how we are interacting with our environment, to be oriented in space and time and perception of gravity enabling us to do almost everything that we do in our daily lives. Our ability to maintain a calm but alert state is influenced by this sense. As gravity is continuously pushing us towards the earth, we need to support our body by going with gravity not against it. A fun way to do this would be to get outdoors and hang upside down from a tree or monkey bars at a park. It can also be done at home on a therapy ball. Downward dog is a good pose that supports rehydrating the spinal discs keeping us tall! 3. Smell is typically related to emotions. We smell something and feel happy, calm and peaceful. It can also make you sad or disgusted. Through inhalation of essential oils, the limbic system is influenced and can lead to a change in your body chemistry for better health and a positive mood. Adding the natural strategy of inhaling essential oils during your breathing practice will double the benefits. I like to start with Frankincense. Place a drop in your hand, rub together and inhale through the nose and exhale allowing the sensation to take over. I always like to find ways to infuse wellness into all that I do. Being in real estate is no different. I met up with Laurel James who does aroma wellness along with interior decorating. We share the same passion of aromatherapy. I would like to share a brief word from her. “Did you know our first sense entering a room is smell? Imagine how aromas affect your clients as a Realtor when selling a home! Why are aromas not considered in our living spaces when they can help us flourish? Many enhancing effects for our mood and health are supported with quality essential oils in our spaces. I am excited to teach individuals, Realtors, and design experts the uplifting aroma benefits for our environments with consultations and classes. What affects our decisions to buy, decorate, or design our homes? In this fast changing world, what grounds us and keeps us thriving in our living spaces? If you are interested and want to know more, I am offering whole-life preliminary interior design consultations. With my studies of design psychology, humanology, and our vital need for a connection to nature, I integrate the home owners’ unique selves and needs into their living spaces. This process is collaboration between Realtors, builders, architects, and interior designers to streamline a great design process for the home owner and design team.” Laurel James, Aroma Wellness & Interior Design Consultant Stay tuned for next month when Laurel shares her article You + Nature = Home, where you will learn about the benefits of bringing nature into your home! Kimism: Maximize health and well-being by combining two or more natural strategies! Cinnamon and Coconut Oil Hair Mask

re you suffering from hair loss or just want to have your hair grow faster? This month I am featuring hair growing masks along with tricks for hydrating your dull, dry winter hair from the comfort of your own home. Typically, people suffer from hair loss due to hormonal changes, thyroid problems, child birth or menopause. All of this can be stressful and frightening but before you spend money on drugs or harsh chemicals try out this DIY hair mask: Why it Works COCONUT OIL

scalp, improving blood flow to the hair follicles. It also strengthens your hair follicles which allows your hair to grow longer. INGREDIENTS: - 1 tablespoon of Coconut Oil (I recommend using an organic product) - 1 teaspoon of cinnamon DIRECTIONS: 1. Vigorously mix these two ingredients in a small bowl

Coconut oil stimulates hair growth and adds luster, shine and softness to the hair. It also prevents hair breakage and split ends. Because of coconut oil’s high moisture retaining abilities it penetrates deeper into the hair shaft than regular conditioners. Also, because it is loaded with fatty acids you are left with beautiful, soft, silky hair.

2. Gently work the mixture into your hair and massage into your roots

5. Rinse with your regular shampoo and conditioner

Cinnamon stimulates circulation to the

For best results use this mask twice a week.

3. Put your hair in a tie and wrap with a shower cap or towel 4. Let the mask sit for approximately 35 minutes

Healthy Options For The Man Who Has Everything

a sense of connectedness between yourself and the grass, somehow elevating and stimulating at the same time.

Some of the best gems for relieving life’s little discomforts are essential oils. While it is usually the women who lean toward this solution, Men…

Gearing up, you remember the last time you played. You like to carry your golf bag, but lately you’ve noticed it tugging on your shoulder, and you feel your gait is dragging the swing. Even when you switched to pulling the bag, it was noticeable. Movements have caused some muscle stress and can feel it with every swing. A little swipe of Valor Roll-on could do the trick, aligning your energy before you begin. It is also very calming and can give a boost of confidence as you glide

oday’s focus is on the men ~ How can we help support your healthy life style in a natural holistic way? Men are pragmatic – generally you deal with something when it happens. Although you’re experiencing different stressors every day, you treat those little annoyances like pesky mosquitos, simply to be brushed away. When the bug’s venom r-e-a-l-l-y starts itching, your awareness says, “what can I DO about this?”

Listen up! Your turn has come. The science behind the use of pure essential oils is revealing, so as you dip your foot into the scented oils a few times, you likely will find yourself stimulated by the results of your research. Quality, purity and effectiveness are key elements to their viability. Let’s have a look at what benefits are possible using oils if golf is your passion. On the drive over, you’re telling yourself, ‘Today is par or better; get your head in the game.’ In moments like these, a drop or two of Frankincense comes in handy. Put it in your palm, breathe in the earthy, uplifting aroma, and pat your neck. The scent is grounding you, giving you

through the first nine holes. Next? Three oils may help support that shoulder before your game: Start with Deep Relief (roll on). Simply massage a few drops into the troublesome spot. Then chase them with a drop of Aroma Siez and Copaiba to amplify the benefits. Use as often as you want throughout the day. When the game is done, you’re ready to have a great night with your gal? Shower with Shutran soap; and don’t forget the Shutran oil afterward. This is an empowering blend specially formulated for men to boost feelings of masculinity and confidence. It can be worn as a cologne, too!

Last thing before bed, RutaVaLa (Rollon) is a soothing option. Roll a bit behind your neck or on the bottoms of your feet. Its benefits may include calming stressed nerves as its natural oil chemistry can be both relaxing and revitalizing while inducing a better quality of sleep and rebalancing to the energy levels of the body. Great for being mobile, these eight little bottles can be popped into your bag, handy for the gym, too, or even throwing horseshoes. Women love these too. Switch out the Shutran for StressAway to make a nice little “Love You, Too” gift, just because.

Oh, about those mosquitoes -- they can sure ruin a guy’s swing, right? An effective skin care option I enjoy includes Vitamin E along with seven essential oils in a sesame carrier oil. Young Living’s Insect Repellent has a naturally-derived, hypoallergenic formula that leaves skin feeling smooth and moisturized instead of greasy or sticky. Great on the golf course and safe for the family too.

Lakewood Ranch Golf Update There are more than 1,250 Floridian golf courses, more than any other State, and many are open to the green fee paying public, however if you want to play the very best golf courses in the area it will require effort and skillful networking.

akewood National Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch recently hosted the inaugural PGA “Suncoast Classic” tournament the second week of February. 156 players competed for a $550,000 purse. A five-year deal is in place with the PGA and Lakewood National through 2023. This year’s tournament was won by Colorado native Mark Hubbard who secured his first Tour title in his 65th start, firing a four-round total of 26-under to secure a two-shot win over Maverick McNealy. Developed by Lennar Homes, in conjunction with the Lakewood National Golf & Country Club masterpiece community, Lakewood National is a 2017 Arnold Palmer Design course featuring a layout unique to the western central Florida landscape that encompasses a natural, rustic feel with a classic touch rooted in the Golden Age of golf course architecture. If you are a golfer, Lakewood Ranch offers a variety of courses to take a swing at.
