DAYLESFORD Daylesford, incorporating the neighbouring settlement of Hepburn Springs, is the largest town in Hepburn Shire. Like many settlements in the region, it was founded after the discovery of gold in the 1850s. However, other industries quickly became more predominant, particularly tourism associated with the mineral springs. Tourism is still a major industry, as is retail trade and health care. The town has attracted new residents and investors from major cities. Daylesford’s population declined in the period 2001-2006.
