to the We often witness ruins of demolition alongside new high-rise buildings and commercial centers while walking in our cities today. Urban revitalization alters not just the city's facade, but also its residents' emotions and perceptions. The ruins resulting from the demolitions tell the story of each family' s past life.

This winter, my grandfather's house is facing demolition. Before it is bulldozed, I am attempting to use digital art to reconstruct and commemorate its story.

"To the Moon" is not only a series of projection-based digital art installations, but also an intimate story about homesickness that belongs to our family.

Since the 1980s, Chinese cities have been undergoing massive housing demolition and renovation, leading to the passive relocation of thousands of residents.

My grandfather's home, an old house full of our family memories, is also facing demolition this year. Before it was gone, I returned to it with a deep sense of sadness and longing.

Like a recorder of the past days, there are numerous stories in every corner of the house, which carries lots of unforgettable memories and longings of the family, along with many other old houses to be demolished.

Homesickness refers to an academic term called "sense of place" or "place attachment" in the discipline of human geography, which is formed by many factors such as people's experiences and interpersonal interactions in their hometowns, which together contribute to the formation of a sense of place.

The farming production mode and the hometown philosophy developed from it have formed a strong and lasting constraint on Chinese people. Naturally, "nostalgia" has been a classic theme in Chinese literature, with many famous pieces being written since ancient times.

Among the world's major civilizations, the Chinese nation is probably with the greatest sense of history and original homeland consciousness.

PROCESS SPLITTING

I collected and analyzed a number of ancient Chinese artworks on the theme of homesickness, including Chinese painting, calligraphy, sculpture, and holiday customs further.

I have extracted the contents of some of the famous paintings ( shown on the left), which show that there are different perspectives and various expressions from different artists when recalling their hometowns, however, these paintings are all filled with the authors' strong feelings for their hometowns, whether it is a landscape, a flower or a small shrimp, all of which are shown very vividly through the authors' imagination and embellishment.

Nostalgia is born on the assumption that one is far from one's hometown, which means that it is memorial and reminiscent in nature. For ancient Chinese poets, whose transportation was invariable and communication was difficult, it is more about the imagination of the hometown than the actual existence of the countryside. Therefore their works are filled with many embellishments and ideals, apart from images that trigger associations and memorable objects.

To this extent, the nostalgia of the ancient Chinese is similar to the emotions triggered by modern demolition. When we miss the old house that was demolished, and this memory is not necessarily a true recreation of our past life, but an aesthetic memory or poetic memory that becomes a kind of personalized and abstracted production for us.

There are many things in common between the homesickness triggered by demolition and the sentiments of the ancients: personalization, abstraction, and the conflicts between memory and reality.

Design ideas I extracted the process of homesickness and the means of expression from the ancient Chinese artworks, so as to adopt the ancient way of homesickness to face the demolition.

DESIGN CONCEPT

Daylight easily reminds people of time and windows tend to create the atmosphere of home; so, the characteristics of both can be used to create a mapping related to objects in the home, thus resonating with the viewers.

Inspired by the word "memory", the project breaks down several processes of reminiscence and allows the audience to experience the process of viewing from real to imaginary after the artistic processing of real scenes and virtual imagery.
