We create club environments that encourage members and guests to feel not just accommodated, but welcomed; and that surpass their expectations. We understand that members want to sense a level of belonging, value, and richness, as well as comfort and familiarity. The clubs and hospitality environments we design integrate the qualities expected by members; allowing them to settle in and feel comfortable. We know substantial activity is occurring behind the scenes, allowing you to provide seemingly eortless service and unmatched accommodation. We understand the business of leisure and create designs that allow the pulse to slow, spirit to recharge, and ignite the desire to return.
Historically viewed as playgrounds for the wealthy, today’s city club has evolved to become an urban oasis that appeals to a broad demographic and reflects the resurgence of cities, changing technology, and shifts in how business is conducted. City clubs have evolved to embrace a changing landscape and entice increasingly younger members. Décor is transitional; not so trendy as to be immediately outdated, but no longer the formal, traditional style that had become their hallmark. That décor also provides more variety and options for dedicated work spaces that have member-facing technology—a place to work between meetings in the city. But it’s not just about work, it’s also about play; city clubs also feature more media areas within the casual seating areas and large screen televisions in demand from younger members.

Each club is a unique environment with its own story— communicating the heritage, culture, and community of the club. Defining the club identity is vital. Whether it’s in wine country, a growing suburban area, or a bustling urban center; the identity guides the design to create a unique environment that is distinctive, fresh, and current. Within each club, areas are programmed to further the story: a traditional pub, an elegant dining room, or a bar focused on sports of names for a famous former member; the club must cater to the interests and ideals of its membership.
TRENDS Club managers have realized that the best way to turn around membership demand and golfer participation at their clubs is to invest in the non-golf aspects of the membership experience. As a response to a shift in members’ interests and values; health, fitness, wellness, and more inclusive recreation will be the identifying club characteristics. Walking a golf course at the turn of the 20th century was exercise; spending an hour in the fitness center or participating in a Power Flow Yoga class is increasingly the norm. Clubs are incorporating exercise options as well as functional training like TRX, TPI, Muscle Activation Therapy (MAT) as well as spa, nutrition, joint rehab, physical therapy, and athletic and sport-specific training.

TREESDALE GOLF & CC
Located in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA, this golf and country club was renovated to integrate current features and trends of modern club design as a response to feedback from current and prospective members. Features of the design include an updated lobby, expanded and more informal modern bar, and improved dining areas for both casual and upscale dining. Today’s country club member is interested in a club that is as multi-faceted as the lives of the members themselves; able to offer less formal member space for getting together with family and friends, as well as more formal space for entertaining clients or celebrating family milestones. This renovation succeeded in its goal of reinvigorating the club by offering an experience appealing to a younger demographic of club member.

CHANTILLY NATIONAL GOLF & CC Architecture, Incorporated designed more than 11,000 sf of renovations for this golf and country club located in Chantilly, VA, which at one time had been a dairy barn. This private club features multiple bars, dining areas, and event spaces for members to enjoy. For a classic, yet modern look which expresses the unique history of this club, the design utilized pops of color and unique patterns to make a memorable interior atmosphere. The project involved a comprehensive interior renovation of dedicated member areas and expansion of the private event facilities, to include construction of a signiďŹ cant wrap-around addition and grand exterior terrace.

TOWER CLUB Originally designed in 1986 with only limited alterations since, the existing club was due for updates. The owners sought to revitalize the club and offer an atmosphere that would make it relevant and appealing to a younger demographic, while maintaining the elegance and exclusivity which has defined the club since its opening. The fully refinished atrium became a focal point in order to establish a grand sense of arrival. Sculptural panels designed into the existing barrel vault accentuate the volume of space along with decorative feature walls and integrated display technology. The design includes an open and centrally located bar in a less formal dining area, designed to appeal to today’s younger, tech-savvy business leaders. Also included in the renovation is upscale dining—a hallmark of the existing club—with commanding skyline views, decorative wine displays, custom wall art, and curved walls to the interior. The result of the renovation, which included virtually all of the public areas of the facility, is a rejuvenated club that features an emphasis on providing compelling design to match the prestigious atmosphere of this Northern Virginia icon.

Other interior renovations to the banquet spaces and common areas were designed to reflect the expectations of a modern character suitable to the sophisticated membership.
