Layers are IMPORTANT Start Outward and Secure Inward ●
Being aware of the outermost area of your facility allows for more time to react.
More eyes that can report issues earlier will create a more safe and secure Church.
Depending on manpower monitor and secure as much room around you as possible.
Watch for WHAT MATTERS Some Possible Indicators ●
Groups moving around abnormally.
Vehicles out of place.
Luggage when not needed.
Items or obstructions significantly out of place.
Posturing, positioning, or preparation cues.
Do Not NORMALIZE It May Not Make Sense ●
You may not be able to rationalize what you are
seeing. Know this now and do not freeze or discredit what you are seeing. ●
Prepare and Drill reactions prior to seeing
something possible in real life.
Be Realistic Is it Relevant and Possible? Get Real!
Violence is ever evolving.
Processes that have been in place for years are not automatically effective. Ask “Have they been tested”, “Are they still relevant to current violence trends?”
Know the capabilities and structure of your Safety and Security Team. Do not get tunnel vision on a single skillset or tool.
Know what is most probable to occur: Medical Emergency, Domestic/Family/Intimate Partner Situations, Emergency Evacuations, Disturbances, Violent Actions, Etc.
Set training and training schedules based in realistic occurrences.
Monitor and Process public information and studies in regards to Church Safety and Trends.
