is a beginning . together progress is oming C “ . together success is eeping K together - Henry Ford Working
A team is similar to any normal group of friends, except in a team, everyone has a common goal to achieve. Because all people are different, it is important in teams to manage diversity. Sometimes diversity can be a good thing for your team, and it can also be a bad thing. To be a good team, everyone must work together to appreciate the differences in your team members. By understanding how a team works better, you will be able to have more fun and achieve harder goals with your team members. Also, if you understand what type of skills people have, it will be easier to pick a suitable team for you. When a team has a balanced range of skills, it has the best opportunity to being successful.
N I K R O WHY W AM? A TE • It will expand your mind. • It will teach you to understand other people’s opinions. • You will learn how to deal with conflict. • You can have fun with your friends while still acheiving a goal.
A S I T A H W L U F S S E C SUC TEAM? • A relaxed and interesting team atmosphere. • Everyone is involved in team discussions. • The team all has one common goal to acheive. • It is important that everyone understands their specific tasks and roles. • Team members listen to each other. • If there is any conflict, team members work together to find a solution. • There is no dominant leader, as everyone has specific strengths that the team can benefit from.
Question! To have a successful team, you must have the following: a) A common goal. b) A balanced range of skills. c) Certain roles in which every team member is responsible for. d) All of the above. Answer: d) All of the above.
WHICH TEAM MEMBER ARE YOU? It has been discovered that a successful team does not happen by accident. If a team functions well, it is more likely that they will achieve their goals. There are different roles that a team member will play to have a successful team. The three different roles that a team member can be are: The Worker, The Helper or The Distractor. Take this quiz to find out which team member you are!
If your team needs someone to collect all of the equipment after the practice, what would you do?
When someone in your team is injured while you are playing your game, what would you do?
Go and pick up the equipment straight away.
Tell an adult to pause the game so that you don’t miss out on playing time.
Help someone else pack all of the equipment into a bag.
Go over to your team member and check to see if they are okay.
Talk to your friends while your team members collect the equipment.
Complain about your team member wasting time and try to keep playing.
If someone in your team became upset because they weren’t having fun, what would you say?
If your team leader has to leave for a few minutes and tells you to keep practicing your new skills, what would you do?
“Just keep trying your hardest and it will get better.”
Do as the team leader said and continue practicing your new skills.
“Why do you think you’re upset? How can I help you feel better?”
Take the opportunity to help others who are struggling to catch up.
“You should just get over it.”
Stop practicing all together and start telling everyone about your day.
The worker will help the team focus on their goals and assist with any problem solving. If a certain task needs to be completed, this person will be the first to put their hand up to help out. Sometimes they may end up contributing more to the team than other team members.
It is important that each team has a helper, as it is very important for the success of the team. This person will keep the team running smoothly and help anyone if they need it. They will be happy to sacrifice a personal benefit so that they can help someone else.
DISTRACTOR The distractor is a person who plays a negative role in the team. This person will choose his or her own goals before the goals of the team. Sometimes they may distract the other team members from what they are meant to be doing and this is not good for the team.
