Rice Donations to Poultry Wakas Poultry Wakas has been an adopted community of Rotary Club of Paranaque Midtown for well over 4 years. Our members are in contact with the community leaders to always discuss potential beneficial projects for the residents of Poultry Wakas Village. October 21, 2021 - For this project, we were tapped by the 1Filipino Foundation to distribute 500 kgs of rice to our target beneficiaries. In partnership with RC Paranaque Metro and JCI Alabang, we were able to distribute the rice on the day, handing 5kgs packs to each family in the community. The day started with LCP RJ with Rotarians, Tersh Tupas, Raymond Braganza and Gian Nacino going to Alabang to pick up the sacks of rice from 1Filipino Foundation. 2 pickups and 1 SUV were driven there to accommodate all the rice we were allocated. Each sack of rice was carried by the members of RC

Paranaque Midtown showing their commitment to service for the beneficiaries and the club. Once loaded, all participating members drove to the target community to deliver the rice that we had promised. affected by the COVID pandemic. The lockdowns that have been set by the government limited their ability to move around and work thus affecting their livelihoods. We handed over 100 5kgs sacks of rice to the families in the community. From children to the elderly, family representatives lined up to receive their sack. All participating members of the club and those from the community followed the safety protocols to prevent Covid transmission.

eKonsulta:

An online pediatric medical mission for Poultry Wakas November 4, 2021 - The eKonsulta Project is the brainchild of DGE Mildred Vitangcol that serves to help people by giving them online medical consultations. This project became a necessity during the pandemic as all hospitals were reaching their maximum capacity. The growth of online platforms during the pandemic gave a chance to people to connect with doctors for their health related needs. Rotary Club of Paranaque Midtown’s very own President-Elect Sharon Callejo, was the first to connect the club to DGE Mildred and her eKonsulta team. Also included in the team was Rotary Club of Las Pinas headed by PE Dr.Joseph Manapsal, and the doctors from Las PInas Doctors Hospital headed by Dr. Maria Teresa Reyes. PE Sharon was able to bring in the pediatric doctors of LPDH to participate in the planning and execution of this project. There was a one month preparation for this project before it was launched in November. The project was divided into two parts: The online consultation with doctors and the distribution of medicines and vitamins to the beneficiary. The online component was done via Zoom. The beneficiaries at Poultry Wakas coordinated with their community leaders to go

online via Zoom. They set up three online stations using mobile phones so they can meet the doctors online. The doctors joined the online consultations from their offices at LPDH. The online clinics were handled by the following doctors: Dr. Dyanica Carpio, Dr. Norlisah Pangcatan, Dr. Hannah del Prado, Dr. Merou Panizales, and Dr. Veejay Buena. After each consultation, the doctors would write down the prescriptions that would be passed to PE Sharon for collection. These would then be used for buying the medicines for distribution the following day. Each consultation took an average of 15 to 20 minutes thus making the run time of the project over 4 hours long. This project was a success as 5 doctors were able to give medical consultations to 30 children on this day. This platform helped the children find solutions to their ailments all because they were able to meet a doctor, something that is very hard to do in the middle of a pandemic. This program in partnership with the doctors of LPDH and chaired by PE Sharon gave medical consultations online to 30 children (0 - 11 y/o) at Poultry Wakas.

The eKonsulta Project was envisioned to be a two part project: The online consultation and the medicine distribution. After the online consultation with doctors, all the prescriptions were then collected by PE Sharon. This will then be sorted so that the purchase of medicines and supplements could be made easier. Thanks to the sponsorship of LCP RJ through his company BJ Marthel International Inc, the team was able to fund and purchase the items on the prescriptions from the partner drugstore. All these were sorted and placed in individual bags stapled together with the prescription and the name of the patient child. This made the distribution much easier by the club and the community leaders.

time against the list on the database to prevent mismatch errors during distribution. After checking, Rtn Tersh and LCP RJ then delivered the packages to Poultry Wakas where the kids and their parents were waiting. Distribution took almost an hour to complete with the help of the Poultry Wakas community leaders Ms Vicky and Ms Precy. All the packages were accounted for and were delivered to the right patients.

The team aimed to do the distribution as soon as possible after the consultation. This was so all the urgent cases or those who needed the medicines badly were resolved immediately. The distribution was led by Rtn Tersh Tupas who received the bulk of the medicines from PE Sharon two days after the online consultation. The packages were then checked one last

Seeing the joy on the faces of the parents showed the team that it was mission accomplished. By taking away the roadblock that is the unavailability of doctors, the club was able to put together a creative solution for the Poultry Wakas community. This platform is seen to be repeatable because of its relevance to the times. With no end in sight for the pandemic, this program can be done over and over again to service communities that could not get immediate medical consultations for their medical needs. The club would like to congratulate all the participants in this project: • PE Sharon Callejo for gathering the pediatric doctors and partners • Rtn Tersh Tupas for helping in the online platform communications and medicine distribution • Rtn Raymond for helping in queue management during the online consultation

Zero-Waste Initiative Turnover

October 30, 2021 - This project is a collaboration between RC Paranaque Midtown and JCI Alabang. The brainchild of Rtn Gian Nacino when he was president of JCI Alabang, this project aims to promote environmentalism through recycling plastic waste in the community. This is a two part project where the first part focuses on creating collection points in villages so people can place their plastic waste and the second part is delivering the plastic waste to the recycling center. The first part involves placing collection bins in our partner communities. Our first community is the Teoville Homeowners Association, where the club donated a metal bin that can hold over 200 crushed plastic bottles. The bin was donated in collaboration with JCI Alabang. There is a second bin on the way donated by PP Rocky Velasco that will be donated to the second partner community in Paranaque. These two bins will serve as visual

reminders for the residents to reinforce their recycling habit. The second part is the delivery of the collected plastics to the recycling center. Our club once a month picks up all the collected plastics and brings it to alabang where the collection point of our partner recycling center is located. Once there the club sorts the bottles and send it off for recycling. Once enough plastic bottles are recycled the recycling center will then exchange it for a plastic

This is a great way for the villages to be rewarded for recycling as well as serve as a positive reinforcement of the recycling habit. The club envisions a future where the environment is cared for and respected. This is the club’s commitment to the environment. There is only one planet and we should take care of it.

Supporting Children’s Education at Haven for Children October 24, 2021 - Our club, in collaboration with 1Filipino Foundation, donated 2 sets of computers to Haven for Children, an establishment that takes care of street children. Haven for Children is a national center for street children recovering from substance abuse. This establishment is tasked with caring for and giving learning opportunities to the children so they can have a better future. LCP RJ has been very consistent in his support for the children of this center. In 2016 when he was the president of JCI Alabang, his club donated 6 computers to supplement the learning programs of the center. Fast forward 5 years and LCP RJ now with RC Paranaque Midtown, will be starting the same program that he started in the past. Through the generosity of the 1Filipino Foundation, the club was able to receive 2 computer sets complete with keyboard, mouse and a headset. This set was put together with the

objective of becoming a complete tool for the use of online learning. These computers will give the children access to their online classes as physical classes are still not available due to the pandemic. LCP RJ approached OIC of Haven for Children, Ms Nieve Gentelizo, and discussed the plans for expanding the online learning capabilities of the center. The first donation of 2 computers will be the first of many steps to improve the learning opportunities of the children. The club is underway to donate 6 more computer sets for the children. Along with this will be a donation of office cubicles so that the children can focus on their studies and not be distracted by external noise. The final project which the club hopes to deliver this year will be an upgrade for their current wifi system which is severely lacking in terms of speed and coverage. Both the club and Haven for Children will soon sign a partnership agreement that will solidify the commitment of support between both parties.
