The President’s Diary Hello All Another good week in Phuket, together with plenty of wind & rain and the usual flooding of streets. This is of course the wet season in Thailand extending to November. Another superb Dinner Out for RCoPB – last Tuesday organized by Rotarian Kenth Nilsson. Great food kept coming all night and no doubt every one left very satisfied with full stomachs. I attended the weekly meeting of GO ECO PHUKET . This was a special meeting to finalize the organizing of the BIG clean –up on next Tuesday 13th August The RCoPB is sponsoring one boat for the day. A total of thirteen boats will leave Chalong Bay at 8:30am Tuesday morning, after the opening ceremony by dignatories, to engage in another day cleaning up the ocean floor of the debris and rubbish around the islands of Phuket. Last year over 15 tonnes of rubbish was collected – and this year it is expected to be just as big a day. RCoPB has approx EIGHT places on the boat – please advise me if you would like to be on the dive boat for the day For those not going out on boats and diving there will be beach cleanups. Join in and help On Thursday morning I accompanied Rotarian Pat Michel on a visit to the Burmese workers’ camp school in Cherntalay. Not having visited previously, it was an opportunity to see the needs of the school and of course meet sister Sandar and the children. The immediate need is for the salaries of the dedicated teachers and of sister Sandar Aye, whom works tirelessly for the school and the welfare of the children. Getting other young people and others from the community involved to read and interact with the children is another priority. Thank you Pat Michel. On Thursday afternoon I attended a meeting at the provincial office in Patong with PP Larry to meet with deputy mayor and Artem Moisenko the wheelchair bound gentleman from Vladivostok Russia, who has spoken at the RCoPB “To Reach Impossible” about wheelchair access to the beach, initially in Patong. It was pleasing to see plans are already in place to improve access for handicapped people in Patong. This is subject to budgetory constraints. More details will follow

Youthlinc honours Rotarian Brad Kenny Youthlinc is beginning a program of recognition for individuals in Utah and internationally who have gone truly above and beyond to ensure the success of our programs and to further our mission of creating lifetime humanitarians:

Youthlinc All Stars. These stellar individuals will be recognized at our Team Reunions event this Saturday August 10 in Salt Lake City – an annual event where all of our teams come together to celebrate their accomplishments locally and internationally this Service Year. Though we partner with Rotarians all over the world, Brad Kenny has distinguished himself as an individual who simply throws himself into helping us and the people of Thailand. We could never thank him sufficiently for his attention to detail, his thoroughness in preparation, his heart and his passion for helping others. He simply ‘gets’ what we are trying to do, and makes it all so easy for us to accomplish.

Here is what will be on Brad’s award Brad Kenny has been our Thailand In-country Coordinator going on seven years. He is a dedicated Rotarian, excellent father and business owner, and one of our favorite people to work with in Youthlinc Land. Year after year, Brad consistently takes great care of our teams who in turn fall in love with him, his fantastic stories, sense of humor, and kind soul. He volunteers countless hours to ensure we have good partnerships with the villages we work in and meaningful hands-on work that can be sustained after our teams have gone home. Brad takes care of all the big and small details that allow our teams to have a powerful, and fun experience. We cannot thank Brad enough for everything he has done for Youthlinc, and for the gigantic impact he has made in Thailand, and for each and every participant that has had the honor of working with him.

Pat – doing exercise after HUGE lunch

This is an example of the youth of Paris, smoking on the street, waiting for the parade to start. You have to admire the "cool" of these two
