EMAIL FROM ROTARIAN RICHARD IN MICHIGAN U.S.A. Denis -

June 2011

My adopted club (Gibraltar, Michigan) was gracious enough to invite me to the Super District 6400 meeting recently held June 28. This is an international district that spans the Detroit River and Lake Erie with clubs from both the U.S. and Canada. It was a very well attended event with over 200 attendees representing +15 clubs. Festivities were kicked off with both "Oh Canada" and the "Star Spangled Banner", followed with toasts to both the Queen and the President of the U.S. Dignitaries were led into the hall by traditional bagpipe music. Numerous pins were presented and the speeches went on into the night... What made the evening most memorable was transportation by boat to the affair by Rotarian Bob Saunders. The weather was perfect for the hour long trip on Bob's immaculate 38-foot 1965 Chris Craft to Canada. It is a sturdy ship indeed, being the first year Chris Craft used a fiberglass hull, with all the interior decked out in traditional mahogany.

The warm weather here means the "Gib" Rotary Calendar is in full swing. They have a dominant presence at Gibraltar's 4th of July Festival (Margaritas anyone?), followed by the annual golf outing. In late summer, the popular antique boat show is scheduled where several Rotarians show off their pride and joy.

New GIB President second from left Enjoying the summer here, but looking forward to our return to Phuket at the beginning of October. Thank you Richard - we are certainly awaiting your arrival in Phuket Volume 6 - Issue 3
