The Object of Rotary The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular to encourage: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service High ethical standards in business and professionals; the recognition of worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Four Way Test Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendship? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Speaker for Tuesday 18th July - Richard Watson V.P Hari reminded everyone that the speaker next week would be Richard Watson, a well-know investment consultant Though his main subject is the Thai stock market, Rtn. Hari emphasized that even those who may not be interested in such investments will benefit from the political and economic background that the speaker may sketch as a lead into his conclusions. President David strongly endorsed this view and asked all members to make it a point to attend and bring in as many guests as possible. (Note: If you are bringing more than six guests, please let SAA Godfrey know so that we don’t run short of food again!).

About thirty people occupied every seat in the room. Rotary visitors came from as far away places as Fresno in California and Merimbula in New South Wales. Guests included Helen, Rtn. Brad’s charming new friend.(Unlike Helen of Troy, she may not launch a thousand ships but can surely lure many millionaires to the mountains of Bhutan as part of her exotic tour business). SAA Godfrey steered the meeting with professional aplomb and plenty of comic relief. Right on time, he gallantly asked the ladies to lead the way to the buffet. As most people sat down to dinner with full plates, about half a dozen others hanging in the corridor complained that there was no more food left. This was soon set right (Better than the days when half the food was wasted). The evening’s speaker, Gareth Twist, managing director of Yacht Solutions, presented a fast commentary to the slides highlighting the Phuket Andaman Rally to take place on 13-27 January, 2007 after a break of two years due to Tsunami. He noted that about 20 sail and motor- boats are expected to take part in the rally. The organizers are looking for sponsors to fund the rally. Part of the profits, if any, will be donated to charitable projects in conjunction with our club. There will be a big send-off party to which Phuket celebrities, including members of Patong Rotary, will be invited.

Looking Ahead - Tuesday 25th July We have an exciting night planed for the 25th of this month at Steven Roberto’s New Wine bar / café in Surin Beach The Menu:- Freshly made wood fired pizza, bruschetta and antipasti all within our food budget of 400 baht per person including one glass of wine per person and then other drinks will be charged on consumption after that. We will have the opportunity to order and sample different wines that Envision imports. I personally enjoy many of the wines that Steven sells. We will have the opportunity to order our favorites for home consumption. It will be a fine night of fun and frivolity that should not be missed. We need to know in advance who will be able to attend so Steven can cater for everyone. This is a night open to rotary Anne’s so please confirm if you can attend and how many in your party. ALAN

The Bulletin As a newcomer to the Rotary Club of Patong, I am endeavouring to publish this on a weekly basis. To make it a success , I need YOUR involvement. It is the Patong Club newspaper and I need your input. It is proposed that it be sent out by Friday of each week. If you have articles or information you wish to have included in the next week’s edition, then I need it by Wednesday Night at the latest. I would also like your comments, both good and bad, to ensure I send out the best information possible. I know Woody is an expert on the PC, so do not be too hard on me! I await your comments. I am preparing a member directory. Similar to one in Australia. One sensitive point is whether you want your address shown. NOTE: This Bulletin is an electronic version and is basically for members ONLY. Unless the Board considers it should go further, then the directory can be left off in those cases. Attendance can be a problem when we have a good guest speaker and I can assure you that VP Hari has really got the show going. It would be appreciated if you will be away for one week or longer to just drop us an basic email to assist with catering. Last Tuesday was a great start for the new Rotary year (see Hari’s notes) unfortunately I left still hungry after the meeting. Thanks – Denis
