t

he entry-level Ducati Scrambler Sixty2, 400cc VTwin aimed for the younger riders and for those who set out for a Born Free lifestyle. The Sixty2 portrays the character that will hit the congested city street or the twisty hilly corners with ease with its flat, but inspiring confidence torque. The solid feel the moment you lift the handle bar of the Sixty2, makes you wonder if you are riding the 800 sibling.

Engine

The 399cc V-Twin, air-cooled engine, It’s for people who want to buy into the Scrambler brand, rather than price, with the horsepower, slowly gain confidence and experience before moving up. The premium Sixty2 retains 60% of the component and looks from its 800 sibling, you could hardly tell them apart

F R E E SPIRIT RIDE STYLE IS J U S T W H AT YO U ’ L L G E T BUT DON’T BE SURPRISE THE SIXTY2 WOULD DART THROUGH THE STREETS. unless someone notice there are no upsidedown front forks, smaller tyre and apart from the throttle that you will notice it’s not the Icon, but the Sixty2. Rev the Sixty2 past 6,000rpm and it bursts into life with its 41hp, is good and easy ride for the new rider and power enough for experience rider to have fun on the right roads.

Handling & Suspension

The suspension, is a lot less firm. The rear shock has been set deliberately soft by the factory. This is no bad thing around town and I was able to cruise over speed humps with easy.

Brakes & Equipment

The 320mm front disc never bites with a snap but is applied smoothly and predictably. Rainy evenings during the RoadTest good test for the ABS.

Customisation

For lovers of “customisation & “Teh Tarik Session life style should love the Sixty2 as the Sixty2 has the character to fit this riders. They will enjoy The Born Free style that portray the rider & bike character!

Dislike!

The standard high handlebar, heat from the engine, so make sure to wear jeans all the time. Losing half the engine capacity does not halve the price of the Scrambler Sixty2. At RM 45,900 it just a few thousand ringgit cheaper than the 800cc Scrambler Icon. It seems a bit steep for a 400cc bike, but it’s a Ducati!!! Having a bike lifestyle doesn't come cheap! Welcome to the club!

Like!

I felt comfortable on board the Sixty2. Any old veterans will like the Sixty2 and its design will prove that the Scrambler is not a fad and that will look as good in ten year’ time. Sixty2 is a bike that invites customisation. I'm giving the Scrambler Sixty2 the thumbs up, it's a premium product at a premium price but with the performance and styling to justify it. For many this will be their first taste of biking. A well balance and a proper solid bike. Expect to cruise in the Land of Joy with good grippy standard Pirelli tyres.

The market is dominated by bikes under 250cc and those adventure style machines are slowly becoming a trend. Kawasaki recently launched the Versys-X 250, a capable bike to tackle ‘any road’. It’s not exactly an off-road machine but still able to ride it easily when the road turns to dirt. With its lightweight the Versys-X is able to tackle the city roads, back road and some gravel roads at LRT constructions, even short enduro excursions. It’s got 19-inch front spoked wheels and 17-inch rear rim with 41mm telescopic fork with 130mm wheel travel, gas-charged shock with adjustable pre-load and 148mm wheel travel a 130mm long front travel suspension and a deliberately strong sub-frame design. he market is dominated by bikes under 250cc and those adventure style machines are slowly becoming a trend. It’s got 19-inch front spoked wheels and 17-inch rear rim with 41mm telescopic fork with 130mm wheel travel, bottom link Uni-Trak, gas-charged shock with adjustable pre-load and 148mm wheel travel a 130mm long front travel suspension and a deliberately strong sub-frame design. A 17-litre tank which claimed could touch 350km on a full tank, and an assist/slipper clutch.

Engine Smooth, torquey and under-geared just about sums up the Versys-X liquid-cooled parallel-twin 249 cc engine, 33.5hp @ 10,500 rpm and 21.7 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. A high revving machine so anything below 7.5k rpm is expected to be a cruise. On the highways the rpm was maintained between 9,000 and 11,000 to maintain normal, safe road speed and so the Versys-X engine always felt like it was being worked hard. That small issue could be rectified simply by changing the rear sprocket to a slightly smaller one. As is, first gear is very short and thus almost redundant. Top gear is also too short, so the potential seems to be there to make the gearing longer. The whole bike would be better for it.

Handling & Suspension The characteristics of the Versys-X is light, easy to handle bike with 173kg kerb weight make the Versys-X , an aroundtown bike for daily communing, well balance and manageable bike. The Versys-X’s skinny tyres don’t necessarily inspire cornering confidence but they didn’t really upset either. There is a mild vagueness about everything but the performance is good and there and the machine feels

easy to dominate, which adds to the fun. The suspension is an area where the Versys-X performs admirably. Kawasaki has a fully non-adjustable setup. You can, if you really want to get into it, adjust the rear shock preload but you’ll definitely need to the tool box out to get the job done. However, everything worked well. It was comfortable enough, even on the bumpy roads, skipping around broken divider and going off road during heavy jam was easy as I have expected. The suspension holds up well, even under the weight of a 50kg rider. In faster corners the front had a tendency to feel like it was jumping around, but this might happen less for a lighter rider.

Brakes & Equipment The braking side, the Versys-X feel budget. The engine department did a reasonably well and the suspension outperformed my expectations, the brakes were only acceptable as we felt lack of bite and feel but acceptable with the 290mm disc, non-ABS. The Kawasaki Versys-X come with the Double Stand as standard and the clutch is surprisingly soft and light even with one finger more than enough to engage and disengage it. Its assisted slipper clutch makes the downshifting from high revs is kept smooth without rear wheel hopping. Wind protection is a good too, offering far more than expected. If you’re on the shorter side like me, there is a good chance you’ll be well inside the bubble too. The dash is functional enough with some of the lights were small and went unnoticed but the key bits are easy to see. The seat shape is okay but a bit hard so I usually stand up.

Well suited for the highways, muddy roads, mountains or the city LRT constructions, the Versys-X 250 is a smart and reliable choice for riders seeking the versatility of a tour-ready dual-sport motorcycle.

The smoothness of the parallel-twin engine. The light clutch is incredibly nice. The slipper clutch is a nice little gadget and works well. On top of that the riding position fits a wide range of riders and the wind protection is more than acceptable. The handlebars have a good rider-friendly bend and the suspension performed better than expected. I’m also a fan of the real-world gravel capability. It’ll never set the world alight as a dual sport/off-road biased bike, but it’ll be comfortable enough on a gravel road. Light weight but Versys-X seems to look bigger that its sibling Versys 650. Comes with Double-Stand as standard so easy to lub the chain, parking and photo shooting. 

Tested: Kawasaki Versys-X 250

Riding a bike that you are totally in charge of can be fun but overtaking on a dual carriage way is a little frustrating when the Versys-X engine always feels like it was being worked hard as try to throttle more to overtake for speed of 120km/h above. But we did clocked 160km/h during the test.

ACE 125 CAFÉ RACER

Let’s ride a… modern cafe racer and SKY TEAM ACE 125 answer to build their own cafe racer or just don’t want the hassle of maintenance of an old bike. So by building a café racer using ACE 125 as the base is awesome, but also requires a lot of time, effort, skills, knowledge, space, retro ideas and ideas etc. Now the scene for cafe racers is constantly growing, Sky Team Malaysia saw a passion for retro and niches on retro classic design especially modern cafe racer. These are bikes with a classic look, but with the technology of a modern motorcycle like modern brakes, suspension, fuel and electrical systems.

FIRST|IMPRESSION : SKYTEAM ACE 125

BRAKES & EQUIPMENT

The Sky Team ACE 125 which recently launch to the Malaysian market is designed after a café racer in mind and its inspired by a 1962 café racer. The ACE appear to be actually be well made by Sky Team's assembler in Penang. At glance the ACE may appear small but has a good riding position. As it has a single seat included for the first 100 ACE 125 purchaser and a long tank where you sit is in reality where a pillion would usually go. So it's quite easy for most people to get in a good riding position.

A single-sided front disc with drum rear brakes.

ENGINE The engine is based on a five-speed Honda CG125, aircooled, four-stroke single cylinder engine, and comes complete with an electric start, kick-start, electronic ignition and a carburettor. A standard ACE 125 will typically output around 5bhp at the rear wheel. The engine is a kind of stressed member in that there are no lower frame rails

HANDLING & SUSPENSION Up front we have telescopic forks and steel mudguard acting as a fork brace. At the rear damping is by two chrome shocks connected to a conventional swinging arm, no adjustment just a bit on the soft side. The 9.2lt petrol tank is a really nicely-made steel item with a locking petrol cap. Altogether, it weighs under 90kg.

LIKE The ACE 125 is packaged for total FUN. Can easily find an endless supply of accessories and parts to customise, improve and alter at budget prices. As a first bike it would be superb to learn how to maintain and fettle as well as ride. This makes the Ace an excellent way to encourage new riders and lady biker into the world of classic bikes.

DISLIKE Thin looking standard tyres, tall round standard mirror. 1st custom job would be bar-end mirrors.

SKY TEAM ACE 125 comes with a one-year or 10,000 km warranty, whichever comes first, and affordable on-the-road price of RM7,366.

ACE 125 is designed to appeal to the current craze for retro, hipster and custom café racer motorcyclist. A single disc in front, and a drum brake at the rear, is easy and fun to ride and with nimble handling,. For more information on Sky Team models please contact 04-582 2596

ESSENTIAL RIDING SKILLS, FOR A FASTER, SAFER & FUN RIDING EXPERIENCE ANY TRACK ANY ROAD

If possible 6 seconds especially on the roads or routes that are new or unfamiliar, you can never be too careful. If you do this all the time, you will have time to counter react to any occurrences or objects in front of you, and have more time to react.

big cc bike vs small cc really is really different, but when using Vision, combining with throttle control and some body position would make your ride better, Where you see, weather on track or on the open road, looking 6 second ahead, is the most vital skill to have. During iRideClinic we concentrate on Vision , so how far we see is how much time to judge your path onwards . While riding on a moped like a LC135, your vision is much higher and more upright level. This is the ideal riding position in the city, almost same like a naked bike, A supersport bike will have a lower view but make sure never to target fixate at an object, just move your eyes around and look at where you’re going and look ahead

LOOKING AHEAD 6 SECONDS BASICALLY GIVES MORE TIME TO REACT

In riding any bike, body position and throttle control are the essential riding skills that needed to be as natural as possible on a bike without thinking about it and concentrated on looking what’s happening in front. Others like braking, lines also play a part as your speed goes up and naturally the adrenalin comes when twisting the throttle. 10C BLUETOOTH CAMERA AND COMMUNICATIO N SYSTEM

S

ports Action cameras are great for reliving or sharing your experiences with friends and

family. The one downfall with these video recording devices is that they are limited in their capabilities. Sena is well known in the motorcycle industry for producing excellent Bluetooth communication devices that enable rider and passenger or a group of riders, to talk amongst each other via intercom while cruising down the road. After introducing its Prism Cam, a handlebar mountable or helmet mountable camera that linked up with Sena’s communication devices to record audio and video, Sena decided to combine the two units and came up with the Sena 10C. With the introduction of the 10C users now have the ability to record high-def video, snap hi-res still shots, stream music, listen to FM radio, make and receive calls from your smart phone, receive voice prompts from your GPS devices, or use the intercom to communicate with up to four other users. Basically, with all its functions you are no longer restricted to a few basic operations, the Sena 10C opens you up to a whole new world and can turn your motorcycle into a multi-channel rolling entertainment center. Most amazingly, with all of its capabilities, you’d think the 10C would be an awkward and heavy device. However, the opposite is true. Extremely compact and lightweight, the water resistant housing mount to the side of your helmet as other Sena Bluetooth devices do and once installed you’ll barely notice it’s there—the unit only weighs 3.32 ounces. The camera has a 125degree

field of view and records video in 1080p:30fps, 720p:30fps, or 720p:60 fps. You can snap 3.5MP photos in either standard, burst (5 pics) or time lapse (1 shot every 10 seconds). The camera accepts MicroSD memory cards up to 32 GB which gives you about 2 hours of recording time. With a dedicated camera button the 10C also offers video tagging which when activated will record a 3 minute clip (1 min before the tag and 2 additional minutes after the tag), this will save you editing time by recording only the important parts rather than recording a 2 hour video and then trying to find the exciting parts. The cool thing about the Sena 10C is that it allows you to easily record dynamic videos that integrate music and voice over/narration. Again, this not only makes for easier video editing and sharing, but also more engaging content. Beyond its video capabilities the Sena 10C enables you to communicate with up to four other people via intercom. The intercom is universal and works with other Bluetooth headset systems and offers up to a 1 mile range. The FM tuner has ten presets so you can find yourfavorite stations

quickly. Connecting the comms system to your smart phone enables you to perform hands-free calling so you can stay focused on the road. The device provides up to 17 hours of talk time and fully charges in about 3.5 hours. While there’s no screen on with the 10C (it does provide audible beeps and voice prompts for status changes) by downloading the Sena Headset app you can see exactly what’s going on and easily configure the settings and access the Quick Guide. The Sena 10C comes with everything you need to install, charge, and use the device and is fully compatible with iOS and Android devices.

Azlan sped to the holeshot at the start of the 600cc race, but soon lost his position as the pain from his injury hampered his performance.

West clawed his way up to the leading group, eventually putting his yellow Akeno bike right on Ito’s tail. The Australian made a decisive move on Lap 11 and led a train of four to the chequered flag with a time of 28’56.056s. Yuki Ito finished second with 28’56.140s while Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi claimed the final spot on the podium with 28’57.346s. UB150 RACE2 BATTLE eam SCK Rapido Hi-Rev Honda Racing duo Fakhrusy Syakirin Rostam and Mohd

Muzakkir Mohamed triumphed in a dramatic Underbone 150cc Race 2, bringing home a much needed boost for the team at the Suzuka Circuit, which hosted the third leg of the 2017 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. The 6 -lap Underbone 150cc race got off with championship leader Wahyu Aji Trilaksana at the helm. The Indonesian Yamaha rider raced at a conservative pace in the first part of the race. With an extra second in his pocket, Wahyu could afford to pace himself while his chief rival Mohd Akid Aziz tried desperately to gain the upper hand.

As the swarm flew down the back straight, Wahyu pushed beyond his limits in an effort to gain some leverage at the final chicane. Unfortunately, Wahyu was unable to fully control his bike and crashed heavily at the entrance of the chicane, taking Akid Aziz out with him. Fakhrusy and Muzakkir narrowly avoided the same catastrophe. Fakhrusy had almost lost control, but made an impressive save and continued racing towards the finish line in first place with 16’03.866s. Muzakkir scored his first ARRC podium in second place with 16’03.940s and Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairues completed the all -Malaysian podium in third place with 16’04.649s. Both Wahyu and Akid were able to get back on their bikes in time to finish within the top 10. Akid finished eighth, and earned enough points to stay at the head of the title hunt with 93 points. You certainly don’t need horsepower, so an 800cc Tracer, Tiger, 1050 or GS will be fine. Every bend and corner is a photo opportunity. >>Betong (Thai: เบตง,) is the southernmost town of Thailand and, being located by the border of Perak, will be holding its 2nd Bike Week. OK Betong International Bike Week (OBIBW) 2017 will be held 4th -5th August 2017. Ride distance Kuala Lumpur to Betong is 382 kilometres, take the north-south highway and exit after Ipoh, towards Kuala Kangsar then to Pengkalan Hulu. OBIBW will see 2 days of fun-filled activity for bikers. Biker groups from 6 neighbouring countries will participate in the OBIBW.

A not to be miss thing to do in Betong is to visit Aiyoe Weng, located in a subdistrict in Betong to appreciate beautiful sunrises over the sea of clouds. It is said that the sea of clouds in Aiyoe Weng is the most enchanting mist in southern part of Thailand. While in Betong, the more prominent tourist spot in Betong is supposed to be the must-see Piyamit Tunnel, a 15-20 minutes ride from town, up north from the clock tower in Betong town, using Sukkayang road and another attraction which is very near to the tunnel; Betong Hot Spring. Many other tourist attraction like Wat Phutthathiwat, Clock Tower and Secret Tunnel: The other side of Betong (Giant Chicken & Dinasour) Back in town around the Central Market there is the Wai Sek Kai (in Cantonese Food Street) of Betong to satisfy the hunger of the riders.
