INFANT BAPTISMS The Sacrament is celebrated on Sunday at 1:15 PM. A Pre-Baptism Catechetical Session is required for parents. Godparents (Sponsors) must be practicing Catholics and at least 14 years of age. A practicing non-Catholic Christian may act as a witness along with a Catholic Sponsor.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We welcome all unbaptized individuals, friends, family members and neighbors who are not Roman Catholic Christians or those individuals within the Catholic Tradition who may have never received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist or Confirmation to participate in our parish program for adult Christian Initiation at this time. This program is also ideal for baptized Christians of other Christian denominations who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. If you know of someone who may wish to experience the richness of our Catholic Faith and who desires to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church, please contact Joe Sweeney at 732-266-6264.

MATRIMONY

The Sacrament of Matrimony requires an extensive period of preparation. Contact must be made with a priest at the Parish Center one year in advance.

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

“The Lord be with you.” “And with your spirit.” This past Sunday we began the implementation of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal here at Saint Bartholomew. So far, so good. It was a little awkward using the prayer cards for our responses but on the whole the community responded positively to the changes. Thank you for your patience. At this time I want to announce the three winners of the Parish 50/50 Raffle. They are: First Prize: Aimee Jensen Ticket#262 $14,160.00 Second Prize: Joseph Flanagan Ticket #056 $2,478.00 Third Prize: Steve Astone Ticket #275 $1,062.00 Please allow me to express my gratitude for all of those families who participated in the raffle, as always I am grateful for your support of our community. A special thank you to Greg Di Lalo for organizing the raffle and handling all the arrangements for the drawing on November 20th. In Christ Fr. Thomas

St. Bartholomew School News MINISTRY TO THE SICK The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the anointing of the sick is available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please inform the parish concerning the needs of the sick by calling the Parish Office. If any member of the parish is hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office immediately so that a member of the Pastoral Staff may visit.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO ARE SICK AS WELL AS THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES

Dear St. Bartholomew Community, With Advent upon us the school is gearing up for Christmas. Our entire school is busy preparing for this year’s Christmas Around the World presentation. Our show will begin in the school auditorium at 7pm on December 16th with a $2.00 admission. Everyone in our St. Bartholomew family is invited to attend...school, CCD, parishioners… to add an old fashioned delight to the busy Christmas season. Hope to see you there! SBS fourth graders just culminated their unit on the Lenape Indians. Projects being presented in class showcase student’s creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm for this exciting unit. The preschool classes entertained family and friends with Thanksgiving songs and a knockout display of their work. The three and four year olds know how to steal hearts. A big thank-you goes to their hard working teachers who enthusiastically welcome us to see the pre-K work. St. Bartholomew school is a busy working, learning, and growing in the Catholic tradition.

ANOTHER WAY TO SHARE YOUR BLESSINGS For several years now, the St. Vincent de Paul Society has been conducting the Adopt-A-Family program during the Christmas Season. This year, our SVdP volunteers have recommended four families with whom they have been working, who are having a hard time making ends meet for a variety of reasons, including illness, unemployment, etc. We are looking for donors from our parish family to help assure that these families in need have a happy Christmas. You can help either by donating money to pay for a utility or other bill, or by buying gifts for the family that they cannot afford themselves, without falling behind on their bills. We appreciate any and all help. We respect the confidentiality of both our clients and our donors. If you are interested in participating in this wonderful program, please call Debbie at 732-613-8743 or e-mail Debbie at rewagner54@comcast.net 2011 Bishop’s Annual Appeal In Faith, With Hope

The SVdP Giving Tree has been set up in the Church Vestibule. Each tag on the tree is for one gift (we ask that you purchase only one gift per tag). If you want to do more, take as many tags as you wish. In fairness to those buying gifts and those receiving them, we ask that the cost of the gift not exceed $25. Please follow the specific instructions on the tag (collection dates may be different) and please remember to attach the tag to the gift (the instructions vary depending on where the gift is going). We will remove the instruction portion of the tag before the gift is delivered. Gifts will be delivered by St. Vincent de Paul members the day you bring them to the Parish Hall. Gifts must be brought on the day and between the hours marked on the tag. Gifts brought to the church before or after the date and times on the tag cannot be accepted, and as a result, someone may not receive a gift. (Pink tags and silver/gold tags are due on Dec. 11. All other tags are due on Dec. 18) We and those we serve thank you for your generosity and cooperation. May God bless you and your family this holiday season and throughout the year.

To date, the Development Department has received pledges totaling $ 82,956.92 and payments totaling $ 66,983.42 from 423 parishioners. This represents 54.3% of your $152,800.00 goal. The Office of Family Life empowers families to accept and embrace Catholic values by courageously modeling those values for society by the joyful acceptance of cultural diversity, the compassionate outpouring of love for those who are hurting or in need and for the ongoing affirmation of the dignity of all human life. Your gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal supports these vital ministries. Roman Missal article 03.rtf PREPARING FOR THE NEW TRANSLATION OF THE MASS New Words in the Communion and Concluding Rites On the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011, Catholic parishes in the United States will begin praying the texts of the Mass using a new English translation of The Roman Missal. This week, we conclude our survey of some of the changes in the words and phrases that we will pray. The priest invites us to come forward to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord by calling us to the “supper of the Lamb” and we will respond: “Lord, I am not worthy/that you should enter under my roof,/ but only say the word/and my soul shall be healed.” This calls to mind the Gospel story of Jesus healing the centurion’s servant (Matthew 8:8). When we are blessed and dismissed from the Mass to continue living our Christian mission, we recall the presence of the Spirit one more time in the dialogue “The Lord be with you.” “And with your spirit.” The priest or deacon will have two new options for the dismissal: “Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord” or “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.” Our response—at Mass and each day — is “Thanks be to God!”

Congratulations to James and Mary Pat Mezick, members of the parish family of St. Bartholomew, who were presented the 2011 Regina Nostra Medal at a Solemn Celebration of Evening Prayer on November 28, 2011 at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen. The Diocesan Regina Nostra Medal was first bestowed by then Bishop Theodore E. McCarrick in 1986 to commemorate the Fifth Anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of Metuchen. It has been awarded every five years since then. The medallion was especially commissioned by Bishop Bootkoski in 2006 to mark the Silver Anniversary of the Diocese. The obverse side depicts Christ in glory crowning the Blessed Virgin as queen. It is copied from a mosaic found above the interior doors of the Duomo (cathedral) in Florence, Italy. The converse side bears the initial “M” with a crown above it signifying the title “Mary, Our Queen” (Regina Nostra), Patroness of the Diocese of Metuchen. The medal itself was designed and struck by the artists of the studios of Davanti e Medaglia, Milan, Italy.
