The Power of Direction
EFORE each flight, pilots have to go through series of navigational process. They check every apparatus in their cockpit, including their compass, making sure that they are functional before they set off. So for them to get to their destination, navigation process is very important. There are two words in direction: - Navigation - Destination Numbers 10:29-32 There is a place in Canaan called Elath. It is a desert from where you can go to Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan. Recently I drove there with my wife; it is such a vast open and wasteland. It is very hot and inhabitable. Here Moses was appealing to Hobab, who is conversant with this terrain to please follow them to the Promised Land so as to be their compass. We should remember that the Pillar of light and cloud from God was leading the Children of Israel; yet they needed this man who understands the terrain. In life every one of us needs direction in: marriage, ministry, family, academies, etc. One of the greatest enemies of direction in distraction. For direction to take place there must be navigation. Navigation brings us to our destination. When distraction sets into your life it could stop you from getting to your destination. To be able to prosper in this land you need to know the spiritual terrain and how things work. Hobab followed the Israelites and they were able to channel their course through the wilderness to their destination. Whenever you find yourself in the wilderness of life; may God send angels in the form of men like Hobab who will be your compass in Jesus name. Why do you need the power of direction? It will help you to gain knowledge and wisdom:
JULY 2013 THEME:
Rest By Still Waters
- By Pastor Chidi Umeh-Ujubuonu
A] It will empower you (Proverbs 11:9). B] Help you gain stability in life. When a man is working wit h stability one of the things that you notice is that there i s stability. As Christians we won't experience recession because God gives us stability. C] Direction will help us to gain accuracy. Many years ago we didn't have GPS. But now there is, so we can have accuracy when being directed. When God called Jeremiah he said to the Lord that he was not ready for this task, but God answered him saying, that He had already made him ready from when he was in his mother’s womb. Esther didn't know from the foundation of the earth that she would find herself at a place called Persia. Daniel didn't know that he would find himself in Babylon. As soon as you stepped into the land of Leeds, God has ordained you to become influential. We need accuracy because it exterminates errors. Youth, you must ask God for accuracy in your marriage. Accuracy helps us to sustain the momentum already gained. Prayers Father from today let Your direction help me in every area of my life. Father let your direction bring me to a place of purpose Father let there be accuracy in my life. Father I declare that this land of Leeds will yield her increase unto me; it shall not hold anything good back from me. CONGREGATIONAL HYMN WHEN PEACE, LIKE A RIVER, ATTENDETH MY WAY When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Refrain It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live: If Jordan above me shall roll, No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul. But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait, The sky, not the grave, is our goal; Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord! Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul! And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so, it is well with my soul.

How Will You Get Refreshed From The Heat?
- By Dr. Abayomi SANUSI
THANK God for the opportunity to share with you these words, mere reminders of the
scriptural precepts you are already familiar with. Recently in this country there has been warm weather, temperatures sometimes rising to uncomfortably high figures. Many have had to seek refuge in shade after exposure. People have had to ʻget activeʼ at preventing some of the stress that high temperatures bring: heat exhaustion, dehydration, burns, and so on. Water has been important in these series of activities. Even without excessive heat we get thirsty, and need to get refreshed in our hearts, minds and bodies. In the journey of life the Christian also feels the heat. Our constant activities that help us remain focussed include physical, mental, emotional and spiritual exercise that leave us needing refreshment. Activities like praying, worship, meditation, watching, waiting, fasting, going the extra-mile for people just because of Christ. Spiritual heat can be produced from these activities as well as from battling against every appearance of the devil and his evil devices. Spiritual heat can produce discomfort, stress and sometimes pain. With certain conditions met, we have our refreshment, solace and comfort in the Lord. (Psalm 1.2-3). How will you get refreshed? The various solutions that the systems of this world offer may temporarily tackle problems. They are often a temporary fix to an enduring problem. God offers a permanent solution, giving himself as a guarantor and our insurance policy. The woman of Samaria had travelled some distance from the city by foot alone in the heat of the day to Jacobʼs well, carrying a water pot and necessary tools to fetch some water. She had practical, relationship, physical, emotional and spiritual issues that nobody had addressed before. She must have been feeling not only physical heat, but a spiritual one too. She encountered Christ Jesus at the well. He demonstrated that he knew her, her situation, her several problems, and cared for her enough to help her. Jesus offered her the opportunity to receive direction, instruction, peace and purpose in her life when he challenged her in verse 10. (If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water). I believe that encounter changed her understanding, life, and situation permanently. Have you ever wondered how busy the city might have been when she arrived to declare incredible things about a certain Jew she met at Jacons well? It would be interesting to know what was in vogue, what the gossips were, and what social challenges needed tackling all those years ago! As our society gets distracted by the temporary issues of the season (heatwaves, holidays, fires, crime, politics, the established customs and traditions which do not honour God, and so on) let us see these as reminders to refocus on the things that really matter. In case you are feeling the heat, how do you plan to get refreshed? Rather than getting distracted, what deeper things is God trying to tell us today? Here are some thoughts to help us focus: 1) We will get weary from time to time in the journey of life. In fact there will be issues to tackle, problems to solve, and we will need constant vigilance to ensure we do not drift away from our spiritual goal. Eccl 3.1-8 2) Jesus knows about each and every problem we may have, including those we are not even aware of. He is the one to associate with. He is the one to hand out with when the going gets tough and hot. 3) Jesus himself is the solution, answer and cure we need. There is sufficient demonstration by signs, wonders, power in the historical account of what he has done in the past and the testimony of saints today. 4) John 4:14. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. 5) He wants a relationship with you. He wants to start afresh. He wants to give you relief, refreshment, relaxation. He wants to give you living water, so you will never become exhausted, overheated, or lose our spiritual vitality.
