The Prophetic Power of Fighting With Words

W

E have so many negative things that are around us in society. Many of them seek to overwhelm our lives. There are however ways to fight and win those things. God has put the weapons to fight these things in the scripture for us to learn and use them at any time in the future. By the time you start, it might look ordinary and as if you are not winning, but be determined and focused. Those weapons are between your teeth. As believers, some negative things we say work against us because we do not realize that our weapon is between our teeth. As a Church that believe in the word of God, I like t o remind you that these words of mine are entren ched in the scriptures. I Tim. 1: 18-19, Paul was giving Timothy a charge, command or instruction to pay attention to the prophecies that had been spoken to him before in ministry. There are words that God had spoken to our lives in songs, prayers, testimonies, scripture reading, etc. They are words to be relied upon in time of warfare. There are people who are in the midst of trouble, but they have forgotten the prayers that their Pastor offered over them; the scripture a friend gave them; a statement rendered by someone that pierced their heart; etc. They were supposed to keep declaring the word, but they have forgotten them. Paul was telling Timothy to use the prophetic word that had gone over his life to fight a good warfare. When a man of God speaks to you or you are reading your bible and a scripture jumps at you from the page, or it could be a message on a Sunday like this that touched your heart, peradventure it’s a song, testimony. That should encourage you to

fight a good warfare. I have always said that a testimony shared has the power to repeat itself, if the hearers would believe. God can do miraculous deeds when you believe His words. We need to pay attention to the fact that: Sometimes we reject His words; Sometimes we are afraid to declare the word. Possibly, because someone has told us that before; Sometimes we simply forget to say the word. Sometimes we do not meditate upon the words, as in relaying the words back to God; and sometimes we do not give ourselves wholly to the world. In I Tim. 4: 14, Paul again encouraged Timothy to give himself entirely to the words of the Presbytery over his life. We must not neglect the word and work of God. Whatever makes you tense now will be changed by God. He will give you confidence and relaxation in order to take His words seriously in Jesus name. A man like Peter talk about using God’s word to engage in warfare (2 Peter 1:12-21). He remembered exactly what happened in time past when Jesus was around. He kept the words in his heart and brought it to use at the required time. Know also that when you remember a testimony to share, it is usually that there is someone in the congregation believing God for such an occurrence that is why God has prompted you to share. We must always remember our encounter with God and not the pains we go through, but the place you give to the prophetic words that come to you is very vital, because that is the way out. At the temptation of our Lord Jesus, the same thing happened. But each time, Jesus brought the word of God spoken by Prophet Moses to fight. In I Kings 18:1, the word that came to Elijah look ordinary, but because they are the words of God, they carry power. May God send rain on your ‘land’ in Jesus name. FROM THE PULPIT

“Ask me not where Iʼve been but ask me where Iʼm going...”

I

- By Doctor Abayomi SANUSI

THANK God for the opportunity to share with you these words, mere reminders of the scriptural precepts you are already familiar with. Itʼs that time of the year. The year is nearing the end. There have been life transforming events. For countries there have been challenges and problems. For individuals the importance of being part of a community, or a family is greatly emphasised. The society continues to aggressively pursue the now familiar liberal and anti-God agenda. Some things however remain constant and unchanging. The knowledge that God cares about His children, and will never leave or forsake us is invaluable and comforting (Psalm 37.25). There is the reassurance that it is well with us, not because of the provisions of society, but by the command, decision and grace of God. That reassurance cannot be paid for with physical possessions (Matt, 6.33). The advantage we have in realising that the maker of the universe, our father, is ever with us and has empowered us to continue the work of Christ Jesus is empowering. It is a time of the year that weariness may set in. The dreariness of physical toil and mundane repetitive activities that creep upon people near the middle of tasks and projects are no respecter of us people of faith. In achieving our personal goals, spiritual, education and professional achievement, and other aspects of life we need revitalisation. We need to redefine and reassess out position. “Whatever it takes to make it, Iʼm going all the way. I may be down sometimes, but I wonʼt be down always” goes the upbeat chorus from a song I liked years back. One of the verses of the song starts “Ask me not where Iʼve been but ask me where Iʼm going...” Itʼs time to reassess and ask yourself where youʼre going. Not only that question alone though. We also need to reassess why youʼre going there, what you intend to do there, and whoʼs going with you! In the journey of your life are you a passenger, the driver or pilot, the co-driver or co-pilot? What kind of vehicle are you travelling in. Are you prepared to go all the way to get to your destination? Example from a mistake in Israel! After installing Saul as king as compelled by the people but guided by God, frail, grey and elderly Samuel assembled an entire nation and was very uncompromising in his approach. He established some facts including what Israelʼs sin was. In conclusion he established that for His Nameʼs sake, the Lord will not forsake His people. 1Samuel 12.1725 Somewhere along and in the dreary middle of the history of the nation of Israel and Judah, imperfect decisions were made. Despite rejecting God as their king, God continued to work with, guide, bless and protect Israel. They went on to produce wonderful and historic rulers including David and Solomon. God turned their error around and incorporated it into His perfect plan. My prayer is that God will arrest your errors, imperfections, weariness; and turn every wrong decision around to favour you and achieve His plan for your life. Not only this year but in perpetuity. Where are you going, What are your errors, and who will you turn to ? So as we near the dreary middle of a so far eventful year, let us as children of God reassess our journey, and establish some facts. An imperfect start is not an excuse for failure. A faulty interim is not a damnation verdict. There is no situation my God cannot turn around. The bible is full of humans making mistakes, and getting corrections and achieving a desirable result. I have personally fallen short of several of my personal expectations so far this year, yet God remains merciful to me. It is not difficult to guess which new year resolutions have turned to disappointment for many! Have you been scorned, victimised, hurt, discriminated against? Have you disappointed yourself? God is merciful and no less powerful than before! David was a broken and contrite man in Psalm 51 after committing murder, adultery, hypocrisy and blasphemy. He asked God to cleanse him and give him a new heart. Verse 10. It is an appropriate exhortation for us today. Whilst we address those things that are due to our own inadequacies, let us rely on God for His mercies. READ THE FULL VERSION http://rccgleeds.org.uk/news/sermons
