I will not leave you nor forsake you A
child that pass through a dark place on the way home every night and always afraid. Four adults tried to help him overcome his fears: - The first gave him incense to wade off the ghosts each night; - The second erected a lamp post at the darkest point of the place; - The third told him that it is sinful to be afraid, and that he should be brave; - The fourth told him that he understood how it feels to be afraid and that he would walk with him every night. Which person’s advice will he cherish the most? I supposed the fourth person that offered to walk with him each night. Joshua was in similar situation. Moses their leader was dead and so it looked like the journey to the largest portion of the Promised Land has to be abandoned. Two and half tribes have got their portion, what will happen to the remaining tribes? Aaron was already dead, Mariam had died, Moses just went up to Mt Nebo and never came back. Worst of all, he didn't leave his rod behind! What is now going to happen? What a sense of fear would be upon the people. The Israelites were fearful that was why the journey of 40 days became 40 years, to the extent that out of everyone that was 40 years above (over 600,000), only 2 were now alive! Joshua and Caleb with all the children that set out from Egypt were looking at the Promised Land across River Jordan. What an anticipation, apprehension and confusion that will characterised their minds! What their fathers could achieve with all their spiritual piety, how can they? God saw the state they were in and the challenge Joshua was facing. God decided to charge him up with words of promise that He will always be with him as he leads the Israelites into the Promised Land (Joshua 1:1-7).
JULY 2013 THEME:
Rest By Still Waters
- By Pastor Samuel OBAFAIYE
There is nothing assuring and re-assuring like a super-power walking with you. The State of Israel is only 5 million people. There are more than 50 million enemies around them. Israel is very privilege though, as they enjoy the supernaturally backing of God. After it dawned on Joshua that God was 100% behind him, he became extremely bold to undertake deadly missions. How could a man approach what seem as a spiritual warrior if not that he knew a higher Spirit was with him (Joshua 5:13). It is the same reason why King David was able to boast in Psalm 23. There was a supernatural Shepherd looking after him. The timeline of a man was shown as a footprint. He found out that when things were rosy for him, there were four footprints walking side by side. This he found out that God was walking by him. Suddenly he discovered that when things were very rough for him, there were only two footprints. This made him sad, as he thought God had abandoned him when he needed God the most. God however made him to understand that, at such times, He was carrying him and that the two footprints were of Him and not of his. Note that God did not tell Joshua that he would not face difficulties. But that no challenge will match him in his lifetime. He therefore enjoyed victory all his life, because God never forsook him. The apostles of Christ were always hiding behind Him when He was on Earth as a Son of Man. They enjoyed immunity from every attack physically, spiritually, materially and financially. When Jesus was going away though, panic sets in. How would they survive? They were not even used to fasting. Who will give them food and clothing? Where will they stay? Who will save them from the Pharisees? How about powers of darkness? Will Satan ever fall like lightning again? Jesus however had comforting words to tell them. He promised to be with them till the very end (Matthew 28:19-20).

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN STANDING ON THE PROMISE OF CHRIST
Standing on the promises of Christ my King, Through eternal ages let His praises ring, Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God. Refrain Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Saviour; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God. Standing on the promises that cannot fail, When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living Word of God I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God. Standing on the promises I now can see Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me; Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free, Standing on the promises of God. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord, Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord, Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword, Standing on the promises of God. Standing on the promises I cannot fall, Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call Resting in my Saviour as my all in all, Standing on the promises of God.

HE theme of the month of June is Strong and Courageous as spoken by God through His Prophet and I perceive in my spirit that God is saying to someone here today 'Fear not for I will strengthen you, for I will never leave nor forsake thee'. Brethren I took the liberty to look up the meaning of the words strong and courageous. Strong means having the power to move heavy objects or perform other physically demanding tasks like Samson. But no one is stronger than our God, the one that sits in heaven and doeth as He pleases. The word courageous means having courage, to be valiant and to be brave. It also means the quality of the mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger and pain. Brethren of our own accord we can do absolutely nothing but I rejoice at the word of God in the Bk of Phillip. 4:13 which says 'I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me'. True strength and courage only comes from God, we can only have the strength and courage of God if we know Him and most importantly if He knows you and I. (2 Tim. 2:19) The Bk of Isa 40: 28-31 makes us to understand that it is only in the place of waiting upon The Lord that our strength and courage can be renewed by God. It is in the place of praise & worship to God ( for The Lord seekers those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth), a place of prayer, a place of reading, studying, memorising and meditating on the word of God, that we can draw nearer & closer to Him, and He likewise draws nearer & closer to us. Above all when we begin to put into practice His words that we have hid in our hearts then the more we will become like Him in everything He stands for. Our main Bible reading will be taken from the Bk of 2 Kings 4: 17-37 Brethren this is an interesting story I must say, very inspiring and encouraging. We can draw so many life changing lessons from it. Brethren this is a woman that I do not know how long she had been waiting for a child, because the Bible did not tell us how long she had been waiting but it made us to understand in verse 14 of 2 Kings 4 that her husband was old. Then one day because this woman and her husband provoked God's blessings by taking care of a Prophet of God (Elisha), he did not ask or command it, he just went about doing God's business, but un-knowingly to Elisha this Shunammite woman was observing him as he came and went and perceived in her spirit that he was a holy man of God, and she took permission and consent from her husband and they made room for him in their home. So anytime Elisha was in town he had a place to retire and rest. The Bible says in Matt. 10:41 whomsoever gives a Prophet a cup of water shall receive a Prophet's reward, whomsoever watereth shall be watered also. This barren woman became a mother of a son after so many years of waiting. But Brethren we all know that the devil is a bad devil, the bible says in 1Peter 5:8 he walketh about like a roaring lion seeking whom he will devour, but my prayer is that he will not cast his eyes on us or find us to devour in Jesus mighty name. The Bible makes us to understand that when this child was grown, when it was almost time for him to begin to reward the labour of his parents care over his life , in his prime, the devil struck and he fell ill and died on his mother's knees. This woman had the kind of strength and courage that can only come from God, the grace of God was indeed sufficient for her, she did not tell her husband, she took their son and laid him on the bed of the man of God and shut the door upon him, and went after the man of God. She just took permission from her husband for the release of one of the young men and one donkey for her trip to go after the man of God. Brethren the woman of Shunammite ran back to the source of her blessing, she knew that when she gets to where Elisha was she will make a connection with his God. Brethren what do we do when things begin to fall apart in our lives( trials of faith), do we begin to murmur, do we turn our backs at God, do we begin to go our own way, do we begin to put our trust in man rather in God.
